question for john deere mechanics
Anyone have a shop manual for a John Deere 4600 compact Utility tractor?
I need to know how to take apart the front axle end to replace a bad bearing and seal when the spindle? pivots.
Just thought I would ask before I go buy a shop manual.
Thanks.

I saw that one and several others for a couple bucks more. Should I just go ahead and buy it?
I looked online but couldn't find out what new ones cost so I would know what kind of price that was.
I have bought stuff on ebay before and then later found out that someone else was just buying it and marking it up to sell on ebay.
What do those manuals cost when new? I got one for my avalanche and it was only a couple bucks more than that and it is 4 volumes.0 -
Guess I have to rub it in. That's what happens when you buy that green stuff. Never have those problems with IH Red. [:D][:D][:D] 0 -
Well since I bought it used, I don't know what the previous owner put it through, but it does seem like it should have lasted more than 480 hours before something broke.
I was doing google searches and I found a site that everyone was complaining about the LT120 (lawnmower) or soemthing like that. My lawnmower is a Craftsman but this tractor is a 43HP diesel.
It's my first "real" tractor so the jury is still out on this.0 -
Did you check the forums at www.ytmag.com?

Thanks, I just checked it.
None of the manuals listed there are for my tractor model and that was the same thing I ran into on most interent sites.0 -
ytmag is a good location, but 4600 is pretty darn new.
that's a pretty tough question. JD Shop manuals are awesome. I thought they sell them on CD Rom now.0 -
Sorry. I'm not really familar with tractors anyway. Except that I'm a little scared of them on a sidehill. I've just used that site in the past for info on an old Case that I was given. Rebuilt and traded it for a 50 chevy. (not one of my best trades) [:D]

You can order right from John Deere.
http://techpubs.deere.com/deere/TechPubListing.aspx?EquipID=12348&Language=English
Or contact your local dealer and have them order it in for you, part number TM1679 or TM1679CD for CDRom0 -
Thank you all. I checked the JD site above and they wanted $130 for the tech manual but I got one on ebay for about $88. I was trying to avoid buying one but now I will have it in case something else breaks.
Thanks again!0
