prom pledges
i just heard on the news about on school here in columbus that is forcing the students to sign a pledge to stay drug and alcohol free on prom night. ok, good idea i guess. but to force them to sign it before being able to attend??? and i thought that under law, no person under the age of 18 could legally enter into a contract. under these "pledges" if they are found to violate it, they face 10 days suspension and possible expulsion. is this legal??? plus the parents also have to sign it. is this a way around the legallity?

the school is forcing them to abstain from something they have a legal duty to abstain from anyway: drinking and doing drugs. Something tells me its not valid, but the chance of litigation over something like this is minimal, if not non-existent. Besides, the kids will sign it to be able to go to prom, get drunk, smoke a little weed and all will be well with the universe.[:D] 0 -
The kids could claim they were on drugs and/or alcohol when they signed and therefor didn't reealize what they were signing.[:D][:D] 0
