My boss was going to go with the horizontal closed loop, but went with a vertical loop instead.3 wells 150 ft deep each.It cost him a few thousand more ,but the guy who services them told him he made the right choice as the water temp would remain constant with the deep wells and would vary with the horizontal loop.

He`s only had it in for about three months and he really likes it.I`ll see how it goes for hime this winter. If he`s still sold on it I may have one installed too.

The vertical system is very costly to install and to operate. My boss has one and his electric bill is out of this world. Of course he has a huge house. [:)]

It only takes about 4 feet in most of the country to get a steady 55 degrees year round. I'd go twice that so I could plant shrubs and shallow rooted trees without worry. Most folks put the loops under a lawn where it doesn't matter. The circulator pump should be wired via a sequencer with a 60-90 second delay for the secondary switching so that the tempered water has time to make a few loops before the air handler and heat/air source kicks in.

There is no reason that I can see to delay the pump BD. If you need heat then you have it instantly and the same with cooling. Within about 5 gallon of water either way because the lines will be coming in under your house anyway.

Sorry, I wasn't aware that you already knew it all. I guess the magical metal used in your heat exchanger instantly changes from ambient to 55 degrees so the fan can come on right away with the circ pump.

Shame I wasted 25 years in the business without learning anything except how to say "sequencer".

Rosie, aren't you up there in the Tundra of Indiana? They use Heat Pumps? Do you own a good down jacket?

I have 12 wells, each are 165 foot deep. The pipe is 1". My electric bill in the dead of winter is far less than most other people I know here in PA. And they also have a gas bill on top of that.

It was a little more to install then an oil fired furnace, But it was well worth it. [:D]

I don't know every thing. However I have built, designed and supervised the building of more machines of every type, (including freeze machines that press 500 tons and then freeze at -325F) than most have seen. The cooling of the hydraulics are an enormous task. I have also designed and built preheat machines that run 480000 BTU's. I know a little about machines but I can always learn more. I thought I may get a few pointers. BTW Saturday will make me 48 years with this company and I learn something almost every day. Next month I will be 66 years old and I still love the challenge. How many can say they love their jobs and get paid a good salary? In the last 27 years I have had one week vacation, (my choice). Know every thing? Not by a long shot but I seem to get by. [:)]

I will have you know I am now 4 foot and 1 inch tall and weigh 420 pounds. I have been on a diet and lost 30 pounds and the more I lose the taller I get. Started out at 4 foot even. Must have something to do with gravity.

Release some of that money you have in your pockets and see how tall you get, at least in my eyes. Don

I should be tall enough by then and if not I will sock you in the knee. [B)] Don't know what a suckbutt is but it's obvious matwor does! [;)]

I discovered something a while back, the earth has magnatisium that helps to stimulate the brain cells, so the closer you are to the ground the more your brain cells get stimulated the smarter you are, so tall people are a lot dumber than short people.

Chuck, Now I know why I'm so smart. Does a short stinger count? If so I am the smartest man alive!
