President Bush in 2004 introducing his proposal for a temporary guest worker program
Opponents of the controversial immigration deal forged by the White House and a bipartisan group of senators in private meetings "don't want to do what's right for America," President Bush said in a speech today.
"The fundamental question is, will elected officials have the courage necessary to put a comprehensive immigration plan in place," Bush told students and instructors at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Ga.
The president argued the proposal, which offers a path to citizenship for the more than 12 million illegal immigrants, will make "it more likely we can enforce our border-and at the same time uphold the great immigrant tradition of the United States of America."
The plan, which was quickly sent to the Senate floor without public hearings, has been dismissed as "amnesty" by opponents. But Bush emphasized the bill requires a number of security and enforcement measures be carried out before those features can be implemented.
They include barriers on the Mexican border, hiring more Border Patrol agents and an identification system for employees.
(Story continues below)
The bill would allow illegal immigrants to come forward and obtain a "Z visa" that puts them on a track for permanent residency within eight to 13 years. Fees and a fine of $5,000 are required and heads of household first must return to their home countries.
The illegals, however, would be able to obtain a probationary card right away to live and work in the U.S.
The plan also would create a guest worker program, allowing foreigners to come to the U.S. on a temporary basis with no guarantee of eventually gaining citizenship. ""
Does this make sense?? Head of household leaving, the family with no means of support but welfare etc... Why not all the illegal family leave. Then learn to speak english and apply for citizenship
after a health checkup also a background check which is probably impossible in Mexico. Does he not listen to the will of the American Citizens. " NO AMNESTY. DEPORT THEM." Then slowly take on new legal
immagrants so our schools, hospitals, and infastructure can keep pace.
Not 12,000,000 to 18,000,000 illegals being given amnesty each 10 years. Bush's "idea" only keeps the problem going and sure is not a solution to it in the least.

It's obvious to all.
Absolute worst case scenario, at best!

Yeah, to the voice in his head...lots of echoes, too0 -
He sounds just like most politicians who want the Hispanic vote, including the majority of democrats. We need to throw them all (current serving republicans and democrats) out of office, and I'm going to do my best at the next election! 0 -

Me too,........actually surprised I haven't gotten a "visit" yet!0 -
Bush was stupid when folks voted for him (twice). 0 -
Here is my latest!
Mr. President,
I have mailed you before, both by USPS, and by e-mail.
My opinion has not changed, your's obviously has, since I voted for you the second time.
I will never go along with your plan devised with Ted Kennedy,...........and you have NO right, to call me basically an idiot, because I do not agree with your plan.
Your plan is not a plan, it IS amnesty, and I will do all I can to fight it.
Please finish up, and go back to Crawford, where you belong, as soon as you can.
You have turned Iraq,.........which I agreed with initially, into another Vietnam. How long does it take to realize you can not fight a war by PC methods.
You have put Generals with no combat experience, in charge of our forces, and basically given up your job as Commander in Chief, of our military.
I believe I can understand why, at this point,..............as it seems your largest interest, lies in prosecuting our own troops for doing their jobs, and the same applies for our border patrol agents.
I know you have not had an easy road, but that is what happens often, when you are the leader of the free world. It SHOULD be America first though,...........and that has obviously changed with you.
Enjoy Crawford, and I wish you the best when you are back there with your Mexican friends.
Thank You,
Not as good as the first few,........but I made MY point anyway![;)]0 -
This is the end of the republican party. The whole party just doesnt get it. I hope they either all lose re-election or they get assasinated. Bush is showing pure tyranny on this issue. I am disgusted. 0 -
And here is the usual canned response,............computers are pretty damn quick!
On behalf of President Bush, thank you for your correspondence.
We appreciate hearing your views and welcome your suggestions.
Due to the large volume of e-mail received, the White House cannot respond to every message.
Thank you again for taking the time to write.0 -
Put something in there like, "Do it my way or I will kill you," and you will get a response. Quick. I promise. 0 -

Yes that is true I am guilty of it, but given the choise whate else could I do.
This time however I am determined to show alternitives to the totalitarian/represive/dictatorship we are headed for with the republicratic ticket.0 -
Is THIS enough to wake people up??? 0 -
So the cost of a US citizenship is $5000.00.
Heck, most illegals have probably got more than that in welfare benefits and other social programs just in the last year. I bet some are collecting welfare under several names already.
Let's see... they will pay us $5000.00 of our own tax money back and then we will have to provide them with continued welfare and eventually free healthcare and every other kind of social benefit that is funded by our tax dollars.
I think it is much better to deport any illegals from our country, let them work to earn their citizenship back the proper way. They have already experienced what a great place this is, it should only make them more motivated to enter our country legally and through the conventional system with the intention of becoming a productive American.
I've always thought it was a bunch of BS that any pregnant girl from Mexico can sneak across a line in the sand, then have a baby on our soil and it is given all the benefits of an American citizen. Heck, if they get across within a few days of having the child, they could just say they had the baby here and how would anyone be able to tell. If you snuck into Mexico and broke their laws and went up to their government officials, after they extorted any money you had on you, you would probably get a bullet in the head or a very long term in a Mexican Prison. Instead-we want to give them social security and welfare for life. What a country!0
