if you had your choice which 50 bmg would you get. 0 -
Finally got to the range with the Anzio 50. First shot was on paper in the 8 ring, 2nd in the 10 ring (after boresighting the $15 NCStar 4x scope). This is at 350 yards. Things went downhill after that until I noticed that the rings had loosened up. I had been sure to use a screwdriver on them before starting.
Recoil was amazingly slight, much less than expected. Muzzle blast left leaves flying in the air and knocked a friend's convenience store coffee over from about 6 feet, half full.
I fired off about 15 rounds and my shoulder barely feels it. Honest, recoil is about like a 12 ga., I can't get that many rounds out of my K98 without using a slip on recoil pad.
Next time back it will be at 100 yards off sand bags to see how it groups. Doubt I'll be getting a scope that will do it justice before next summer.

Well I thought I could live with out one. My buddy wants one and I would say why [?]. Well I got to shoot an AR-50 this weekend [:D][:D][:D][:D]. I am still not sure why but I need a 50 BMG rifle. I know there are lots of makers out there. I know I dont want one with the rear removeable bolt. Which one is the best (poke poke poke) and why do you think so. I have been told the Armalite kicks way less then the Barrett. Also what is the cost of reloading ammo. I know buying it starts at about $1/rd in bulk.

I've been wondering about the less known companies like armalite and sebu, EDM arms etc..... I would be willing to buy one of those to see if they live up to the hipe like barrett and the 'ma-duce' have. 0 -
I guess that shows how little I know. I hear ".50 BMG" and automatically I think: Barrett. I'd love one, can't afford it. So I'm curious to see where this thread goes. 0 -

Barrett M82A1. For financial reasons I am looking into some of the lesser ones, but you have to be careful because some of that lame stuff requires completely removing the bolt to load each round. 0 -

The Armalite AR50 is a nice rifle. I sold one to a friend and have shot it quite a bit...definitely worth looking into. I will say this however; after shooting the .50 BMG quite a bit, I no longer wish to buy one. There are far more accurate long range cartridges out there...even Barrets new .416 Barrett surpasses the .50 BMG. The only problem with the .416 is bullet availability. I'm leaning towards a .338 Snipe-Tac. If you end up wanting a .50, let me know. I'll get you a good deal on one.[:)]0 -

Let me first say that I love the BMG and it is my desire to move the heck out of the state of Kalifornia so I can buy a Barrett M-82A1, why? Just because I want one. Now if you are looking for more than the BMG there are several options available. When I say more I mean more of everything that the BMG can offer. More energy, More velocity, More accuracy, yes I mean more. Look at the .416 Barrett, .408 CheyTac, 338/50 Talbot, .50 McMillan FatMac or the 14.5 JDJ.
Now if you want to shoot a really great high power rifle look over at Bill and Keary Ritchie at EDM Arms. These guys have there shop right down the street from where I live and I can tell you that they make an awsome product. See there work at:

Your basic point is well made, there are alternatives to the .50 BMG. However, we are all strongly attracted to the things that are most contentious to the anti-gun folks and on the brink of being banned for no good reasons.
While you say more, I will also say less or rather fewer. There is one bullet currently being manufactured and loaded by Ronnie Barrett for the .416 Barrett. There are only two manufacturers of cases for the .408 CheyTac with none available right now and only two bullet weights. As much as I appreciate all of Skip Talbot's contributions to the shooting world and with all due respect, the .338/50 Talbot was not one of his better or more memorable ideas. And last but not least another one of McMillan's cartridge failures, the FatMac. All the people that whine about the WSMs, RSAUMs and the WSSMs and McMillan put this out... Hardly worth mentioning except that they wasted a lot of money on this one, too. The other one was the .300 Phoenix which was a shortened and necked down .416 Rigby case.
I'll stick to the .338 RUM right now for my long range pleasure.
