If someone is jacked-up on drugs will the tazer really hurt them or will it just p-them off?
What about with pepper spray --- mace?0 -

Not quite.........
Tazers will put them down pretty consistently as it puts a jolt of electricity into their muscles and involuntarity locks them up.
OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) spray will work on most, but I have sprayed people with it only to have them look at me and then continue what they were doing.
Before OC we used CS Mace. That stuff kicked ass. Every time I have deployed Mace it has instantly incapacitated the person.0 -
i think a sober sane person with practice can more easily learn to deal with a spray deterant than with a electricle one.
but doped up..
Who knows what can happen?

I have no access to a TASER, but I have used pepper spray. Pepper spray works, most of the time. Trouble is, it is hard to use without getting some where you don't want it. 0 -
I have seen both in action plenty of times. Pepper Spray works for the majority of people, but certainly not everyone.
Taser works on everyone, everytime, no exceptions. It simply over-rides the nervous system with electrical impluses. Regrdless of how tough or how high you are, it will drop you.0 -

That's good to know. The stuff I carry now is a mix of pepper and CS; seemed like a good idea to cover all the bases. I carry it more for dogs than anything else, and I seem to remember reading somewhere that CS doesn't work so good on canines. You guys probably know that the self-defense use of pepper spray evolved from it's use as dog repellent, a.k.a "Doggie Off".0 -
My experience (dating everyday since the mid-70's) is just the opposite.
Even back then the official S&W Chemical MACE training stated this stuff, "may not be effective on highly intoxicated persons or those under the influence of hallucinogens". I remember thinking those are the ones I'd probalby be most likely to have to spray. I saw lots of drunks over the years who had this stuff running off their noses but weren't debilitated at all.
OC operates in an entirely different league. It's serious stuff that works on a much higher percentage of people than plain old chemical MACE, which is nothing more than liquid tear gas (CS).
I've seen lots of cop gadgets/products introduced over the years. OC is one of the few that actually works well.0 -
From my limited experience, pepper spray works in about 1/2 of the cases.
I have never personally used a taser but in the instances that I saw another agency use one, it always worked.0
