ok i have never had one of these critters before now

Turn the lever thing on the right rear side of the bolt cover up then pull it out till it stops. Take the top cover off, remove bolt carrier and bolt. Up by the rear sight, also on the right, is a lever that you push up with a bullet tip until you can remove the gas tube cover and piston. Clean it too.
Throw all the parts into a quart of gasoline rattle around till clean. Put gas back into car (too expensive to throw away) and reassemble pieces and parts. Bolt carrier and bolt mate together and need wiggled in place as an assembly.
Reload magazine and bang away for another 1,000 rounds or so.0 -
You can buy a pamplet on how to take your SKS apart at Sportsmans Warehouse and I believe Cabela's.It may cost you four bucks.I used two quarts of paint thinner to clean mine up.Pay special attention to the firing pin assembly,take the assembly apart and clean it up really good.A firing pin thats dirty and sticks out of the bolt will cause slam fires, not a good thing. down that far now how do you get it out of the stock the screw on the side looks like it has been flattened some on the end

The stock screw has a flathead screw side. The other side has a disc with two holes, that will accomadate the key for a trigger lock very nicely. Turn the key counter-clockwise while holding the flathead screw side stationary. Once you remove the disc with the two holes, the rest slides straight out. DO NOT turn the flathead screw side as there is a pin through the shaft that anchors the bolt into the stock. Turning it will damage the hole.

Stock thrubolt has nothing to do with taking a SKS apart. Take punch and push in on tab that is thru hole at rear of trigger guard and remove trigger group. then if you have everything else off lift barrel and action from stock. 0 -
Like most military weapons, you can strip the SKS with your hands and a bullet point. Only a idiot would even consider removing the stock crossbolt (on any rifle) for teardown.
Remove the bolt cover, the gas tube and rear piston half/spring and trigger assy as discribed above, than raise the rear of the receiver and remove the barrel/receiver from the stock.0 -
i got it tore down and out of its cracked stock and soaking to get the crap off of it to go to the new stock
i may be an idiot to you tailgunner
i dont play with these firearms so excuse me the old stock is cracked where the crosbolt is located
these are more my speed of firearms

Help me too! I have five of these suckers and can not for the life of me seem to decide which one of any I would get rid of, it's weird.

goooood luck getting it back in the stock... every one I put back together was a damn pain in the ass trying to squeeze it together good enough to make that trigger latch thing hook up to keep it all together. there's no way you could do that with the point of a bullet!!! 0 -
At what point did you mention needing to replace the stock? You were asking how to remove the receiver from the stock.
IIRC the cross bolt has a flat on it, that serves as the recoil lug bearing surface. Also, most military crossbolts are peened to prevent removal.
Yippie, you like to play with race guns, I like my toys to "tip over hair" at distances your race guns can only dream of being able to lob a slug to.0
