When you mentioned your Savage ML, is that the Mod 10ML that uses the smokeless powder?

I was kind of wondering what standard velocities with a 240gr XTP will run out of a 26" ML.

Yes the Savage muzzleloader shoots smokeless.
As for the 240 XTP, it does not get good results with the Savage, because it does not fit tightly enough in the bore. At least, that was the case, I think I saw recently where they came out with a slightly larger 240 that does work.
At any rate, I have shot plenty of 250 XTP. It has the diameter of .452, which is what you want. It is no trouble to get a muzzle velocity of 2,300 fps with the 250 XTP and the Savage. It is considered the "classic" slug for the Savage.
I guess your question deals with mv for Pyrodex, 777 etc. I believe you would be down around 1,700 fps with these propellants.

Hey Allen, don't mean to hijack, but it seems a good place to ask how you are doing. Is that mashed leg mending?

Well, HeDog, I am trying to get off of these crutches. I walk around about half the time without them. The damn tissue around the knee is so tight! Going to be a long rehab.
    Thanks for asking.

cubs, yes it is the one that uses smokeless powder. It is baaaaddd aaaazzzz[}:)] I am 2 1'2" high at 100yds, dead nutz at 150yds, and only a few low at 200yds. We took 5 on fri and sat with them and they are absolutely awesome. They shove major tissue and such out the other side or leave an entrance wound to envy.

I use 44gr N110 and have gotten quite a few "one hole" groups at 100yds. 150yds was maybe 1.5-2". Recoil is "stout" but they beat the hell out of any other muzzle loader I have ever seen. You will never look back.

and as allen said,...the only pills that get great reults have to mic out at .452" dia not .451". I have gotten the 240gr XTP into the same group at 100yds,..but powder charges have to be chnaged. Also,..they HAVE to have MMP sabots to put up with the pressure.

I have run 30-40rnd between cleanings and it still loads as easily as the first round. They actually shoot a bit better after some fouling,...just like a rifle[;)]

JustC I am shooting a very similar load, 43 gr of N110 and the 250 SST.
What a deer killer! Puts my 30-06 to shame!
So y'all killed five deer in one day with Savages? That is pretty good. How many did you get?
