Getting irritated (rant)
I was reading through the Iwo Jima/Iwo To thread, and all of a sudden it hit me just how closed-minded and prejudiced some people on here are.
I mean, come on people! WWII was over 60 years ago! We're not at war with Japan anymore. Yes we lost people because of them. They did too. Yes, we captured and controlled the island. But we gave it back. It's no longer ours to say what they can and can't do with their own damn island.
If you want to call it Iwo Jima, then go ahead and call it that! Just show some f-ing respect for the people who want it to have its original name back.
If you want an example, it'd be like changing San Antonio to Saint Anthony. It's technically the same name, but the people who live there would still want it to be called San Antonio.

zulu, try looking at it like this, the ww2 vets have a different code amongst then. if a drop of american blood was spilled on that ground it is consecrated ground, and belongs to the victors , not japanese. these guys lost thousands in one battle, the enemy tens of thousands in the same battle. the sand was red as was the sea, and they fought to the death all involved. my own father will talk very little of it other than to start to cry,shake,and say damn son that was rough.[V] 0 -

YES, we are at war with Japan!!!! This one world--world economy stuff is just bullsh.... There are winners and loosers in every struggle and we are struggling with the rest of the world for our economic survival. The goals that led the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor in 1941 are the same goals that have led Toyota to become the best selling car in the U.S. War is simply politics pursued through other means. Once the Japanese learned that we wouldn't allow ourselves to be defeated on the battlefield, they simply chose another arena. This time they are winning. Those of us who care about a once great country are more than a little "irritated" at the situation and we're even more ticked off by self-centered pieces of whale dung who say it doesn't matter. 0 -

I agree with Zulu.My uncle, who has passed away was/is a Marine that fought in Iwo Jima,Guadalcanal and the Chosin Reservoir.Whenever he came up to visit us he always drove his favorite truck,a 67 Toyota Landcruiser!Figure that one out!? 0 -

For many years a slow transition has taken place in Japanese schools. It is now to the point where it was an almost mutual agreement to go to war slanted to point the finger at the USA.
Changing the name of Iwo is just another step in Japans efforts to erase the facts of what they did.0 -

Seems every gereration has it's own culture to hate. 1700's, the British; 1860's, each other; 1900's, the Germans, Japanese, Russians; 2000's, Islamists. Who will our grandkids hate?

I don't think the Japanese have blown up any big buildings in the U.S. though I'm sure they would have, given the chance. That gives credence to the doctrine of taking the fight to the enemy.0 -
The Japs are trying to deny that they have any guilt whatsoever for WWII. There Yakusa shrine is full of war criminals, they teach their kids that the US was the cause of Pearl Harbor, etc. etc. Disgusting racist jerks. And yes, I said racist. I have spent a good deal of time in Japan (not voluntarily) and they are the most racist people on earth. 0 -
Its pretty typical. One generation fights in a war and is taught to hate a certain enemy. Following the war their children are friends with the former enemy but the folks that fought in the war who were taught to hate have a hard time switching gears.
Thats why wars are so stupid. Its not the people its the emotional ideology that one is really fighting against, but it is hard to separate the two.
I had a neighbor that was a friend when I went to college. He was German and fought against us in WW1. But then he came to the US and became a citizen. His son was killed fighting as an American against the Germans in WW11. Talk about irony! War is so stupid, but the only solution to break up a dangerous ideology in many cases.
This is the reason we will have a big war with the Muslims at some point, due to the fact they don't understand that to survive in this world they will have to agree to coexist with other religions. Otherwise it will be necessary to exterminate them off the planet like an insect!0 -

Most of us haven't been around long enough to see the big picture..Enemies come and go, and turn into friends who become enemies...It all depends on the agendas of our great and brilliant leaders. My memories take me back far enough to remember Japan as the horrible savage murdering country Truman wanted us to see, because he had plans against them, and passed them on to Roosevelt. Anyone remember that monster Tojo? Then after that I remember those terrible blood thirsty Germans who tried to kill everyone on earth who didn't have blonde hair. Next were the Russian baby killing Red communist horror makers who were not only in a cold war against us with sythes and sicles and iron curtains and big fat gobby women who hated us and wanted to see us exterminated. Look now..where are we? I'm a military retiree and a lover of America weho gave a good part of my life to this country, and I support our wonderful military right down to the ground,..but..where are we now? Is there a difference in the Japanese who wanted us all destroyed, the Germans who hated anyone not Aryian, The terrible USSR, and those turban headed freaks who want us all dead now?
