TORONTO - Doris Moore was shocked when her new couch was delivered to her home with a label that used a racial slur to describe the dark brown shade of the upholstery.
The situation was even more alarming for Moore because it was her 7-year-old daughter who pointed out "n
brown" on the tag.
Moore is consulting with a lawyer and wants compensation. Last week, she filed a report with the Ontario Human Rights Commission.
Commission spokeswoman Afroze Edwards said the case is in the initial stages and could take six months to two years to resolve.
Moore, 30, has three young children, and said the issue has taken a toll on her family.

Okay, that is one woman who is WAY too touchy. And of course she's going to sue, because to a lot of folks, an honest mistake is not an honest mistake - it's a winning lottery ticket.
There was no malice on the part of the furniture seller, the manufacturer, the importer, or ANYONE who was involved. But she doesn't care - she doesn't want to work for the rest of her life, so she's going to sue.

OK, I agree that the lawsuit is totally frivolous, but I still have to ask what kind of idiot marketing executive allows merchandise from his firm to be described with the words "Ni---r Brown"?
Should you use that description? No. You shouldn't do that both because the description is patently offensive, and because the description is very likely to get you into trouble.
Should you sue when somebody uses that description? Maybe. If you feel strongly about the issue, then sue for the cost of your legal expenses plus a dollar to make your point. But if you're suing for big bucks, you're probably out of line.
If you're just dumb enough to use that description and you get sued, is it then a cluster-f*** of a situation? Yes.
And did you ask for that cluster-f*** to seek you out? Yes, even if you were too dumb to realize it at the time.
Seriously: how many times do you have to be dropped on your head before you fail to realize that "ni---r brown," when used to describe the color of a sofa, is going to get you into trouble?

Actually, the article states that the whole thing was a translation error, that wasn't caught.
