Does anyone have one? Can anyone give me real, "I have one and here's what you probably won't like about it" advice? I've got Burris, Leupold, Swarovski and such. I want to go IOR and Shepherd and that direction now. It will go on a new .308 700 action I'm currently on. I have a Springfield 7.62 Govt. Issue on my current .308, but a buddy has it until he can get his department to get one.

ok, this may be a dumb question but i have to ask .

is anybody useing a shepherd scope for hunting and is it worth the money ?

i was considering a nikon or burris ,with bdc, but the shepherd is only a few bucks more .i dont know anybody local who is useing one so i have to ask here .seems like a great scope on paper .

i will be useing it on a ruger 77 in 280 rem .,mainly for deer but who knows what else i'll see in the scope .

Have a chance to buy one for $300.00, used LN condition. 7 to 8 hundred new.

Thought I'd ask for your opinions on this scope. Anyone like these?

Some guys like them, and they are quality scopes inregard to holding zero and being durable. Personally I find rangefinding scopes distractingly cluttered and will not use them. That IS personal and others use them.

What percentage of your shots are over 300yd? From 0-300yd simply use a "point blank range" zeroing.

If your doing 300-600 range stuff, than the rangefinders scopes come into play (once you start doing the 600yd and up stuff, you need to learn to count clicks to adjust your scopes zero to match the laser range).

BTW, I use a Shepherd on my hunting rifle, and now that I'm used to the retical, I love it.

I have one on my M1a springfield and I love it. Had it since about 1991.

    Tailgunner,

Is the Shepherd retical similar to the Springfield 7.62 Government Issue retical?

On mine, the large circle is 300yd, and continues in 100yd steps down to a 1000yd circle. From 300 to 600 the circles also have a crosshair in them. At the top and right side are MOA scales. Not being familier with the scope you mention, I can't answer your question directly.
