Buckeye candy recipe
These are my favorite candies and are especially delicious after being refrigerated. When done, they look just like chestnuts so dip them using a toothpick and keep the tops open. [:p]
BUCKEYES
1 stick butter
1 cup peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
6 cups confectioners sugar
1 package semi sweet chocolate chips
1/4 stick parafin wax or 1 tablespoon shredded
Combine all ingredients until it forms a ball.
Melt chocolate with parafin wax in double boiler (this thins it out and holds it on the candy)
Roll peanut butter mixture into balls and dip them in the chocolate.
Put on wax paper to set. Store in fridge.

The "parafin wax" part of them always sort of freaked me out.
But they are soooooo YUMMY!!!0 -
Not for me....peanut butter ....had what I thought was choc chip cookies at a fun shoot for the kids...took a bite and gagged...I cannot stomach peanut butter ....there was no label on them or anything (which I thought rather strange considering some kids allergies).... 0 -

No way! That is so not fair!
Salty and sweet, it is the best of both worlds...0 -

Parafin is used by many major candy makers like Almond Joy and Mounds to keep the candy firm and not gooey. It's very common and tasteless and you only use a little. Hey, didn't you used to chew wax lips? [:o)]0 -
Wax coke bottles filled with colored water! That was some good parafin!!
My great-grand ma used to make buckeyes at Christmas every year. Always looked forward to them. Except we didn't call them buckeyes. I can't post the name here because it isn't PC. Oh well.0 -

BR I had you figured for one of those anti-peanut butter types. It's only a matter of time before a person's true colors show through. [:o)]0 -

calamitywood...
I love peanuts and eat them like crazy...but I cant stand peanut butter....I think its because the peanut butter is so strong compared to the actual peanuts, and the disgusting color and consistancy of it...yuck...0 -

You've given me a reminder from the deep, long ago past.
My mother used to make a similar candy, although I don't know quite how it was done. What I remember is, she made a dough from powered sugar(is that possible?), rolled it out, covered it with peanut butter, rolled it up into a tube, and cut it into chunks.
It was mighty fine..But then, at the age of six or so, I would've thought Georgia clay was mighty fine if it had sugar on it...0 -

Was it one of these?
