    I have had 2 today!

I think I got this thing figured out though!

I do not smoke a whole one!

I go without untill I can't hardly stand it and then I take 2 or 3 puffs and put it back out, then start over again till I can't take it again.

I have remained pretty calm today by doing this.

I think I will go a few days like this and let my body taper down before I give them up totally.

GRD me bud..I thinks I detect a bit of rationalization there, but don't let it lick you. Get a grip and hang on..You CAN do it. I promise.

Robin Williams said either you are a somker or you are not. Decide which you are and be that. Hang on, it gets easier!

Seriously, as long as you keep lighting up, even for half a smoke, you're giving in to the nicotine demon.

Get some gum - store brand nicotine gum - you don't really need the starter kit.

You chew it like you would snuff - chew it a little and park it between your cheek and gum. If you chew it straight up like regular gum you might make yourself sick on too much nicotine at once.

As long as you're not picking butts up off the street and lighting them.

tsk tsk tsk :) Hopefully your plan will work. I think the best way to do it is to get away, rent a cabin out in the woods, bring a couple of weeks worth of supplies (no smooks though), have someone drop you off and pick you up in say 10-14 days.

I am still holding off, but yesterday and today are the worst cravings, though I know how good it'll be for my brain but how crappy it'll feel physically and mentally. Therefore F. that S., I am DONE with this s--t! [:D]

    Sneaky,
I know how you feel. I have been smoke free since Independance Day. It is tough, AND my wife still smokes, so that makes it a little tougher. I smoked for 20 years. I do, however , chew a little Kodiak to help with to death spasm cravings. To quit cold turkey and not taper your nicotine off in some form is impossible unless to can stay TOTALLY busy from the time you get up, until you goto bed.

    BEST of luck to you!

Thanks freemind. I don't think it's impossible, it's a little annoying but it's not as bad as some other things people get chemically dependent on. Glad to hear you're off of it too [:)]

start exercising. when you start gasping for breath that will be a good motivator to stay the course.

I tried to warn you about rationalizing! 1 then 2 then 3 then game over!

Hey russian, in that get away plan you forgot the fly rod. That could go a long way toward getting you through the first weeks. Hang in, you have made it this far and it does get easier. The first three weeks are the worst, after that you start thinking of sex again.[}:)][:p][^]

    Thanks He Dog.

Question to all: what do you guys think, would having a cigar one every week or even two weeks be considered cheating or smoking? I love cigars and kind of don't want to quit that recreational activity... Was thinking of running out to a cigar shop tonight and restocking the bar with some scotch.

Sneak..It's unlikely an occasional smoke as you mentioned would do you any harm. The problem is..most of us can't settle for that. One slip and we're back at it. It's exactly the same as being an alcoholic. After giving up being a drunk, if a person could have a drink once a week, no sweat..Unfortunately, that's very close to being a pipe dream. It ain't likely. How about giving them up completely for a year, and seeing how you feel then about that once in a while cigar?

You won't taper down. You will find a reason to get pissed off and smoke like hell again or just keep smoking more and more. You will NOT taper down and quit. You just as well keeping smoking as always until you decide to quit.

    Hang in there guys!
The first coupla weeks are really tough; try keeping busy with something that requires both hands, or start playing video games, or create origami figures out of your paper money, or start doing crossword puzzles.
You have to figure out what your triggers are, and avoid them for a few weeks. Mine are: booze (doesn't matter, I don't drink anymore-THAT was EASY!), great food loaded with grease or seafood, Really hot chile, that first one in the morning, long drives alone.

Cravings are directly proportional to the residual amount of nicotine in your system; lots of nicotine=fewer cravings.
The cravings can be dealt with in any manner of ways, but the best way is NOT TO THINK ABOUT THEM! If you don't think about smooking; you won't automatically reach for your shirt pocket when you're bored.

good stuff, bpa, keep it up. It is very satisfying after a couple of weeks to know that you've done it.
