Purchased a RV a couple of months ago,25 ft,gotto Ford 460 in it.I have two questions if any one can answer them.What sort of mileage should I get out of it,the guy a purchased it from said on the flat it gets about 10mpg and the other quetioan is what pressure should be in the 16.5 tires.The tires have 30lb in them at the moment but on the side it says 60lb.That seems a lot to me.

It will have to be real "flat" to get 10mpg. I have pulled 17, 24 and 31 foot trailers with two different 460s. The carbureted one was 10 empty and 7 pulling, the fuel injected was 11 empty and 7 pulling.But they will keep up with anybody and climb a tree if you can get traction.[:D] Fuel economy isn't their middle name.
And yes, 60psi is correct for the heavy 16 and 16.5 tires. It's a truck.0 -
if the tires are rated for 60psi, then put 60psi in, semi tires can go as high as 125psi 0 -

I got 6.7 to 8.0 mpg in my 26 foot Class C, with the 460 Ford engine. I ran 53 to 55 psi in the 16.5 inch tires, as best as I recall.0 -
34' Winnebago 454 Chev, Banks exhaust, between 7-8 mpg towing a Saturn (Saturns are highly recommended for towing).
See the Michelin bulletin for pressure vs load ratings.
Have your RV weighed, loaded to get the load on front and rear axles.
For 8.75R16.5 tires, 60psi will allow you 2165# per tire on each front tire and 2057# per tire when mounted as duals on the rear.
For 9.50R16.5 tires the numbers for 60psi tire pressure are a little higher at 2420 & 2302 psi respectively.
Stick to the charts in the Michelin table rather than the recommendation in the RV manual because RV tires were down rated in about 2003.
Using lower pressure than recommended for the load carried is Blowout City.0 -
Check the manual for proper inflation. What is printed on the side of the tire is for maximum inflation, which is not always where it is supposed to be inflated to. 0 -
I get about 8 in my old 76 Dodge with a 360. I have found a lot of good RV info at the rv.net forum[:D]
