Penny auction anxiety

Ok guys, here is my situation. I need to auction off a relatively valuable firearm on here. I've seen the action that Locust Fork's penny stuff gets, so I know that's the way to go. My only reservation is that because I haven't sold anything on here before, I don't have a long feedback history. Can I still draw a good amount of activity without it, in your opinion?

    I think a penney auction is the way to go. I've had great luck with it, just like Locust Fork. Start it at a penny and post the link here as a "shameless plug"

    last time I had a penny auction my item sold for a penny...fug that!! luckily the guy who won it took mercy on me and sent me ten bucks so my lesson wasn't too harsh.

    Penny auctions only work on things that normally draw a lot of attention or are in demand at that time. Always do a closed auction search for similar items before you place yours to see what the market will bring and the attention those auctions generated. If an item gets around 200-400 views in a weeks running time then you can probably do ok at the penny start. But come on, if I listed a "Rustic Richard Ward Desk Clock" here and started it at a penny, then a penny is what it will sell for. A little common sense is required.

    As others have noted above, penny auctions only work if you have a currently desirable item on the block. Always be sure to include pictures from every angle and every part. (Nunn's auctions are a good example to look at.)

    I couldn't take the stress of a penny auction. I set the start price at what I have to have to at least break even counting the packaging (if needed) and the shipping as close to the actual cost as I can guesstimate. (The foil bowler hats were an exception on the shipping. I set ridiculously high shipping because I didn't really want to sell them but I did want to be able to link to the auction whenever someone mentioned foil hats.)

    Why not tell us what you have and/or post a photo. You'll soon find out if there is any interest in your gun.

    It's a Winchester 101 Pigeon Grade, choked skeet/skeet, 28 ga, 28" barrels, coin finished reciever. It's been shot a little, but handled too much, so it's got a few handling marks. I have the box, but no papers, and no case. I'll post some pictures later tonight after I get home. There was one listed recently that got some good traffic, but the gentleman who was selling has a feedback list a mile long.

    I wouldnt be afraid of that gun. You can run it 10 days to be sure it gets looked at, but the word "Winchester" gets more hits per day than Brittneys cooch. [:D] As long as you have a couple feedbacks and not a NR, dont worry, List it! If you do have an NR rating, IMO I would buy a couple a cheap guns (or ammo) to get some feedback before I put such a High dollar gun like that up.

    Considering you have been a member since 2003, I would not think that your low feedback will keep anyone from bidding. It's not like you joined yesterday and started listing today.
