Is it a scam?

I got a letter today from child services that said a laptop with some personal info was stolen last week and they want my to fill out A form with my address and social security number and send it back. There is no phone number to call and confime it and i don't recall giveing them any info in the first place. What does everyone think?

    Give it to your local law enforcement agency along with the original envelope

    Do you have a "relationship" with child services? If so it MAY be legit. If not ,trash it, it might be a scam. If you think it might be the child services with a real problem, I'd make phone calls, there has to be somebody that you can contact, and if you're lucky you'll be able to understand them. In any case I wouldn't send my info to anyplace I had doubts of until they were resolved.

    ITs NOT legit..No child services or bank etc will contact a person by email or reg mail asking for private info without giving contact numbers, and if a lap top was stolen, the info would be on the main computer, so there would be no need to ask for the info...

    If you have a relationship with them, they should already have that information. Contact the police, right away! The scam needs to be stopped before they dupe other people into sending their information and steal their identities!

    I love those people.. They get to go fast with shiney lights flashing..


    Nunn and a few others are lucky to have the job. Id do it, but i dont feel like getting shot at (it will happen in downtown saint louis just driving down the street!)

    yeah, call the police. it will give them a vigorous 15 minutes worth of work to track down a trail that will go nowhere.

    "we need to stop this immediatley so other wont get duped" in this day and age if your stupid enough to give out your personal information to anyone with an official looking form and juicy sounding email wiht out doing some research and finding out if its legit first deserves to be robbed of every dime they have. there was a time when common sense rained supreme and is it sounded to good to be true, it was and everybody was suspicious until all the detail were on the table. now everybody want to get rich quick. go ahead. ill stick to saving lives and earning my money.

    Scam or not you have a return address. Call the postal inspectors.
