Yesterdays Gas Boycott : (
Boy it worked well around here, the POS gas stations raised prices in the afternoon by $.32 it was $3.07 now it's $3.39.

A one day protest of any product will not have much effect on pricing, in my opinion. Do it for a month and you may see some serious price adjustments.
Gas Stations price based on the last tanker pricing that was delivered. That is what I have been told. So to get the bulk pricing down you would have to have a longer term build up of fuel inventories. They they will just cut refinery production accordingly.
Competition is the only thing that will cut the long term price of gas. But the oil companies are in the prcess of buying up all the competition with their excess profits so we are not going to see any relief.
They are buying up natural gas, oil shale, coal, corn ethonol refineries, etc. People have to drive, they know that, they will increase prices until we have to find an alternative or stop driving.
The day of the large SUV and gas hog trucks are coming to a close!

+1 One day doesn't cut our useage down. You'll just have to buy more the next day.
I haven't brought gas for weeks. I dave a Diesel and a Vibe that gets 35 mpg. I've used a quarter tank in my Vibe in the last 2 weeks. I haven't drove since Sunday. I've gone as long a 3 weeks without driving. I ride a mountain bike to work and get rides back home at night alot if I don't feel like riding back, but I live less than 2 miles from work. I sometimes walk to work. I used more gas in my mower than I do driving alot of times.0 -

Yes and no.
In theory, that's how it works. However, gas stations also determine prices based upon what the competition is doing:
1. You sell gas for $3.00 per gallon. The guy across the street from you just got his delivery and he had to raise his prices to $3.19. You have a choice -- you can keep your price at $3.00 per gallon and steal all of his customers, or, you can raise your price to match his.
Before you say, "Duh! I'm going to keep my prices low, or perhaps only raise them a nickel," think beyond that instinctive reaction, and read below.
2. You've just taken delivery, and you sold out of all your fuel because you kept your prices lower than the competition. You now have to raise your price $0.29 to $3.29. The guy across the street won't be getting another delivery for a week, so you're now priced in such a manner that you won't see any customers while he steals all of yours.
But, we're not done here. Because now, the price of your gas delivery just went down.
3. You just took delivery of gas, and it went down $0.20 per gallon. The guy across the street from you and you were at $3.29. You however, get to now charge $3.09 per gallon. The guy across the street from you is going to have to sell his gas at a loss until he replenishes his inventory.
This is why the price of gas changes nearly daily in these summer months. These gas station owners are desperately trying to maintain their 3- to 5-cent profit margin despite everything that's going on around them.0 -
...Reminds me of my rant on propane prices from about a month ago. I got a fill at $2.439. When I got the right person on the phone, it was adjusted down to $1.84. Now, you know that they're not taking a loss at the lower price, so what is it, other than gouging? 0 -
I watched a couple of guy's on TV, One said that he was not going to let other people tell him what to do, the other one said, so what I need gas. they were both from Portland Or.[V] 0 -
Boycotts hardly ever work, especially if the product is needed by almost everyone, ...they just sit back and laugh...

It will work if the boycott is focussed.
I will not buy from Exxon/Mobil.
