Who's shot three gun challenge?
I just joined the Minot Rifle and Pistol club and in the spring and summer thy have a three gun challenge every week, using a military style rifle, a shotgun, and a centerfire pistol(9mm or larger). I'm thinking this might be something to get into. I already have two thirds of the requirement, I'll have to get a good(better) centerfire pistol.

I have shot all 3 stages, but not in a single stage. I normaly do ISPC shooting in the summer and then we do a rifle or shotgun side match. It is very fun. I do not go to win, I got to play, have fun, and improve myself. I have never walked away from a match having a bad day. I have gone to about 10 matches now since I only get to make it to a few each year due to work. 0 -
3-gun is a BLAST. [:D] [:D] 0 -
What I have so far is rag-tag and second hand, but I think it might work. I got my M1 Carbine and Winchester 1200 Riot. I'm thinking of acquiring a 1911 to round it out by spring. 0 -
I shoot with a Glock 35 (.40). Then I used my Bushmaster varminiter in rifle then my Benelli M1 Super90 on shotgun.
Here is an older shot with my G17. Watch for the mag change between the 2nd and 3rd box.

Here is a Shotgun side match, I came in 3rd. 2nd place was .5 seconds faster then me, 1st was about 10 seconds faster then us.

If you are going to use a 1911, find out what their rules are about magazine capacity. See if you can use an 8 round mag, instead of the standard 7 round, and still stay in the same class. That one extra round can make a LOT of difference.
Find out if you will be shooting one, two, or all three firearms on a single stage.
You will be looking for gear next. Lots of gear. [:D]
Slings on your long guns, if you don't already have them.
Mags and mag holders for your 1911, I use 5, with a barney-up mag in my back pocket.
A pouch or something to hold shotgun ammo, and mags for your M1. (how many mags do you have for the M1? Make sure you have at least one short mag. (10 rounds?) You may have to shoot "under" something, and with a 30 round mag, you have to shoot sideways. That's always a challenge.
Pockets (large) can work to hold some of it, depending on how strict their rules are. Some rules say everything must be "securely" fastened to your body. They make you jump over something, and if anything falls out, you can't use it. Most places are not that strict. They just want you to be safe, and have fun.0 -
Great fun! I have done the rimfire/.410 course out at the Zia Club range, the SOF 3-Gun @ Whittington Center, and I'm looking forward to this weekends' match at the Jemez Range (lotsa snow; should be a CHALLENGE!).
I really liked the rimfire/.410 setup, but wasn't all that competitive with my Winny 9410; one stage had you going thru a culvert pipe for about 4' and shooting to the right immediately after exiting-I missed the target and shot through the stand's leg, went to rack the lever and slipped my left elbow across the edge of the culvert pipe OUCH!.
The SOF match was VERY competitive, most everyone had "tactical" guns, and I was shooting a Witness in .40, a Mossy in 12ga., and my Mini-14; needless to say, I didn't finish anywhere near the top 50.0
