My FIL had his heart shocked back into rhythym from a-fib and it seems to be holding. They will check it next week to see what's what. He is home now but has a cold - he always seems to get one when he goes to the hospital. 0 -

Steel core ammo is magnetic.
Not saying that those aren't steel jacketed. Just saying that you can hold a copper-jacketed bullet that is comprised mostly of lead up to a magnet and it will stick if it has a steel core.0 -

When my father and I obtained these many years ago from a WWII vet, we decided the easiest test was to pull a projectile and cut it in half with a hack saw. I never thought to keep the pieces after confirming, but sure enough it has a steel outer casing around a lead core. There is no steel within the lead, only the thin jacket on the exterior. We also held one up against a grinder and got bright red and orange sparks. I believe that copper is too soft to spark. The old vet told us that steel jacketed bullets were intended to penetrate, hold shape and continue through to the next person. Very much against the Geneva Convention. [V]

I've also got some steel cased .45 ACP's in my collection that were for our M3 Grease Guns. However, they are standard full metal jacket (copper over lead) ball ammo. I'm afraid they are fairly common. [;)]0 -

Yes, but only about half of the short barreled machine guns of that era had rifled barrels. Most were smooth bore to reduce friction and last longer. They were also much cheaper to produce. [;)]0 -

It's my pleasure Doug. Holly and I will have to take a trip over to see you and visit the air museum sometime soon. We took a private tour of the Goose when she was back in Long Beach. That was one of our first dates (back in 1986). Yea I know, "big roller." [:D]
