S&W field strip info

..Tried several sources...no luck. How do you field strip a S&W 2214 .22 semi auto pistol? Should be the same as a 2213 and others with the low mounted barrel. Usually, I can muddle my way through stuff like this, but I'm stumped and don't want to bust anything.

  Assuming it's like the 2206; pull back the slide, remove the clippy thing on top of the slide by inserting the little orange spacer with the two bumps on one end (you DO have the little spacer thingy, right?), then release pressure on the slide spring and it (the slide) comes right off the front.

  .....Sadly, no little orange thingy. I've tried pulling up on the spacer dingus,assuming that that had to be the key, but can't get it to pull upward. I had the right idea, just can't get that thing to budge. The gun is pristine, so I don't want to use pliers or such on it.

  ....I tried padding the clip thingy with rubber and pulling up on it with needle nose pliers. It won't budge.

  Pulled my 2206 out of the box; pull the slide back and look towards the clippy thing. See the pin sticking out? that's the part your "something" has to hit to release tension on the spring. Find "something" about 3/8" or shorter and grab it with a needlenose, and insert it into the gap in the slide so it hits the pin and the slide stop (that solid piece above the barrel, in front of the slide), and slowly release pressure on the slide spring. If your "something" is the right length; your clippy thing will pull right out in an upward motion when the slide is almost closed.
  There's a "shelf" machined into the clippy thing that prevents reassembly in the wrong direction. Now pull the slide back and off the frame. Keep an eye on that spring and guide rod!

  ....A pencil eraser worked perfectly. Plus, I managed to not put an eye out with the spring/rod assembly. Thanks Much.

  No Problemmy! I like to keep a few dozen oddball guns around just to be able to answer questions like that! I think you can order the orange tool thingy from S&W when you call them for the manual[;)].
