Out of the Navy and moving on to new things
After ten very good years, today I drove off the NAS Pensacola Navy base on "terminal leave." I really enjoyed it. I spent six years in California, and about four years in Pensacola, I made three deployments, two of them combat deployments, and the third I spent nine months sitting off the coast of North Korea when they were acting up. I went to school at night when I was home over many years and now I am about a year away from a masters' degree. The Navy paid for about a third of my degree, the state of Florida paid for about a third of my degree, and I picked up the rest. Finding a new job was a little intimidating, but very rewarding and I'm looking forward to putting my degree to good use. I have taken a really good job with Bell Helicopter in the Ft. Worth area. I'm looking forward to my upcoming move and my first day of work is just around the corner.

DFW may not be the most exciting place in the world, but the people are generally polite, kind, and neighborly.
Don't live there anymore (did a few years during school), but if it's anything like I remember it, you'll like the place a lot.0 -
Good luck with your new career. I think you will like Dallas, I have passed through a couple of times and always thought it was nice.
My son is headed down to Houston April 1st to work for the summer installing alarm systems. So he is about to learn about humidity and how to sweat with class.

Congratulations on your decision and welcome to Texas. After college I spent 8 years and 9 months in the Navy and when I decided to leave I spent the next 30 years in Defense Electronics. I retired last year and moved from California back to Texas and live about 90 miles East of DFW. I think you will like the area (hunting and fishing), but the traffic and congestion reminds me of LA and San Diego.[xx(] Best of luck in your new career! 0 -

I'm sure you've already thought all of this through, but many of us (vets) regret not putting in 20 and having that retirement...it's too late to go back and do it now...even if I could medically. I see you are already half way there. You could retire from the military and then have an entire different carreer that you could get a second retirement from...
