Stupidity of the highest order IMHO.

We better get our collective heads out of our collective a ss before we get into some real serious military troubles. Every serious enemy of America is developing, or has developed, some form of anti-satellite technology.

Also, loading down a ground troop with sensory and vision restricting devices and hardware is NOT going to improve battlefield effectiveness except in very limited circumstances, again IMHO.

The Land Warrior system was about the dumbest idea to ever come out of the Pentagon. We seem to be on the fast track to self-destruction, relying more upon gear than training. Standards are being relaxed while more money is being pumped into stupid items like the Talon SWORDS and Land Warrior and the OICW.

We managed to win World War II without self-aiming laser-guided smart stealth satellite grenade launcher/assault rifle/plasma torch combo doohickeys, so why the sudden need for things that rely on batteries instead of guts?

Seems to me we've been spending more and getting less these past many decades where war is concerned.

If everyone knew how fragile Sats. are, and how easily they are to intercept and disable
    ... we'll, I'd say it's a gross error.

In my opinion, we rely too much on the new technologys. Granted they have made life easier and made fighting wars easier / safer, but what happens (and it will happen) when the land warrior system fails or shuts down or whatever? If I recall correctly, my grandfather and all the others of the great generation whupped Nazi and Japanese tail with open sight, wood stocked guns that weighed a ton that shot a real mans cartridge. Rant over[:p]

The mission of the Marine Corps rifle squad is to locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuvers, or to repel the enemy assault by fire and close combat.

We don't need no stinkin' satellites.

    +1

I can only imagine how long some of this equipment will last in the hands of the average PFC. I saw one guy accidentally break his M-16 in half [:0]

You may be right, Those items you have mentioned are very valuable tools though... tools that could be baited for a serious trap non the less...
More of a concern to me is (and I'll admit I'm maybe too set in my thinking) that we've totally ignored the rules of war...
IMO doing so weakens a nations ability to defend herself tremendously... I thank God for Shall I say "US" in the background. But, and a very gigantic but it is, if the 2nd dies, it scares the hell out of me think what our chance are without the last line of defense...
Now back to your statement "Is this a serious vulnerability" YES, "This is serious vulnerability" So serious infact that I suspect that a few of our leaders have to be freaking working for the other side.

Your obseravtion + failure to observe the basic rules of war + attacks on the 2nd x a nation of non-thinking sheep = Fall of the American Empire.
American needs a leader that not only sees that, BUT he must be able to make believers out of all those brain dead sheep...Not an easy task....My gut feeling is that America will only wake up after TSHTF... My 2nd gut feeling is that if the 2nd dies, there is no ifs, ands or buts we are done for!!!

    OK then, here goes;
As long as we allow women in combat, attempt to capture and prosecute instead of utterly destroy the enemy, allow bureaucrats to decide which weapons systems are developed, rely on anything that takes batteries, permit politicians to set the agenda and pace of warfighting, and ignore our valiant veterans: we r screwed.
