    I have been seeing Mexican semis on the roads here for several years, since NAFTA was signed. They are pretty, they have lots of decorative lights.

    This will make Mexico wealthy in a short time. Trailer loads of drugs,
    trailer loads of terrorists and trailer loads of Illegals shipped anywhere in the U.S. on request. Population of Mexico will be so far down they will have to hire Americans to do the work Mexicans will not do.

    Another incremental change ...

    Nationals of another country can already establish something close, and sometimes, nearly identical, to residency in the USA. After these changes build up to an even greater degree, thanks to weak Republicans, liberal thinkers, and the shrill, hand-wringing, ever sensitive idealists, we will no longer have a need to use the expression "illegal immigrant".

    It'll become DE-FACTO AMERICANS

    I'm sorry, but it just seems like a REAL BAD idea to let these trucks travel our highways when:

    a) They carry no insurance that we can trust
    b) The drivers will not be beholden to our laws
    c) Their trucks have not been declared safe by any of our agencies

    and

    d) We have American truckers to do the work!

    It's important that we keep the prices of tomatoes down. This is a good step toward that objective. Every American should be able to afford a nice salad or BLT.

    hmmmm...IDEA!
    DO any of you remember an old TV show called "BJ and the Bear"?
    Well, poor Billy Joe McKay (trucker hero of teh series) was always getting harrassed by Sheriff Lobo (Claude Akins) for no good reason.

    Perhaps it is time for our state troopers to adopt Lobo tactics in dealing with Mehican truckers? Just start harrassing them and find any little reason to fine. When the comapnies using Mexican truckers are swimming in citations and it becomes more expensive than to use good old American truckers, they will stop [8D]

    Fat chance of that. Actually, they probably won't be held to the same laws WE are...much like it is now..

    They "began" rolling on US highways about 1946.
    The Port at Santa Teresa was completed in the last 15 years or so, and there were so many trucks that it had to be built, if only to slow them down before they got on the freeways.
    Mexican domeciled trucking companies are under no obligation to pay insurance premiums due to the widespread and accepted "mordida", or "bite" that is paid instead.
    The drivers get about .10-.14 a mile compared to American Union drivers that make anywhere from .28-.58 a mile and sometimes more.
    The trucks in question were bought used, from American companies that needed cash, and Mexican truck makers.
    These things are set up to haul 100,000 pounds, have a third axle on the rear, and no Jacobs brakes.
    They don't pay full pop for road use taxes due to trade tariffs and treaties for goods produced in Mexico, or delivered TO Mexico on the return trip.
    They will be equipped with almost 500 gallons of diesel(not that low-sulpher crap that Americans pay extra for, either), and they will undergo "inspections" at one in five Border crossings anticipated to be the most used.
    US automakers will likely benefit most (after the illegals, terrorists, and narcotraficantes), by shipping Mexican-made parts for free, or nearly so from their Maquiladoras near the border.
    This "new" announcement is only a reminder of what is allowed to happen when business concerns are leveraged against National Security.
