Don't buy Taurus!
I bought a brand new PT-22 as a birthday gift for my wife. We took it out to fire it and found that the firing pin would not strike the cartridge with enough force to cause detonation about 30% of the time. We tried different brand bullets with the same result. We also had a jam.
I returned the gun to Taurus and called a week later to check the status and was told that all repairs take 5-6 weeks. This is an outrage! Repair would be fine but this gun was defective right out of the box and should be replaced immediately.
Obviously I will never buy another Taurus! They are junk!

Don't give up on Taurus...they REALLY are good guns....and a lot better than SOME out there. In the store we have had a few with minor issues and Taurus fixed them all with no questions or charge...even when it was stupid people that had "worked on" their own guns to the point of no return. Everything has a "dud" come along. The PT-22 is one of the better guns out there and a LOT of fun to shoot. You will be very happy when it comes back. Auto 22's don't really like the lead nose bullets is one tip I can give. I have sold many many many pt-22s and everyone loves those guns.
You know with all of the rigamaro guns have to go through to get into your posession....Taurus CAN'T just scrap out that gun and send you a replacement. I am shure they want to know why it is doing what it is as much as you do. I have gotten a nim rod on the phone when calling about a repair...you may have spoken to the same one and that person doesn't help at all....but Taurus is a good bunch and you should give the PT-22 another chance.0 -
I have a PT-22. It's been a good little gun, but from what I've hear I have an one of the rare good ones.
I've also had 3 of the fullsize 9mm and a 40 and still have a 38 that's been great. I wouldn't think anything about another Taurus and I think they're one of the better makers out there.
You make enough guns and your're going to make a bad gun or two.
5 to 6 weeks does seem like a long time, but I wouldn't give up on Taurus yet. They make some really great guns for the money.0 -
I have three Taurus pistols/revolvers and don't find them to be junk! They are not up to the quality of S&W, in my opinon but they are pretty good guns.
That said the P-22 has a little problem. If you dry fire the pistol without anything in the chamber it will break the firing pin. I imagine that the end of the pin was damaged and that was your problem or the hole was plugged with powder somewhat and did not allow the pin to cycle completely.
I had the same problem and took the slide apart and found the firing pin had the end broken off. I sent the slide only to Taurus and they replaced the firing pin, no charge and had it back to me within 30 days.
Once you get your pistol back make sure you do not dry fire that gun. If you have to dry fire put in an empty shell casing to allow the pin to hit brass.
Relax and enjoy your pistol it will last a long time.[;)]0 -

I know people who have had simular deals with Colt and S&W too.
Every manufacurer will have a bad gun get through from time to time. You cannot expect them to just flat out say OK will give you a whole other gun!
They are takeing proper steps to handle your problem and I'm sure they will get it fixed and back to you a quickly as they can.0 -
Thanks for the reply. However, there are too many other gun makers out there to have to put up with one that doesn't consider the fact that a brand new gun should be returned without any delay. They should flag such guns for 1st priority turn around. They have lost my business for good. Thanks again! 0 -
I forgot to say...you can buy a good gun for about $250 and up...not many of the better guns fall in the price range of the Taurus. My Springfield Micro (about $600 and up) had to have the feed ramp polished pretty heavily before an entire mag would go without jamming. That may be partly due to its size though. 0 -

I have a piece of junk Smith a few years ago and told myself I'd never buy another Smith, but I came to my senses and brought a Smith AR-15. I love this thing and it's never gave my any trouble.
It's this gun that made me fall in love with the AR and I love to shoot it so I spend alot more time at the range cause of it.
It's better built than my Colt and it doesn't have the spring sound after every shot.0 -

My Taurus totally rocks! I've got the Millenium Pro an I haven't ever had a problem with it. I've put some major rounds through that thing 2!
Only thing I don't like is the long trigger pull. Other then that, it's really a great gun.
Not as great as the HK though! [;)] Should've splurged and got her the HK compact!

calm down, they will probally get it back faster than they promise.
they dont want to overpromise and have you calling up to gripe @ them saying they did not repair your $100 gun fast enough

The old saying "you get what you pay for" pretty much applies here. Taurus guns are not the best in the world but also no one expects them to be. They are also not the worst but customer relations is one of the most important aspects of a business. I agree with you in that if it was new, it should be replaced, not kept for repairs for several weeks. 0 -

I would rather own the original.

The dealer you bought it from should have swapped it out for a new one. Then the dealer should have fought it out with Taurus. New gun DOA should not create a problem for the user.
Did your dealer offer to do this ??
If not, HE is the one that would forfeit my business.

I have found that most dealers will not swap out guns. If there is a problem they tell you to send it back to the factory. That was quite a shock to me, but thats the way it works.[:(]0 -

I never dry snap a gun and my wife did not either. I have an extensive gun collection including Glock, Sig, Browning, Winchester, Remington, Colt, S&W, H&K, etc. and yes I do own a Taurus 4410. I have been owning and using guns of all description for 35 years. Why would you make such assumptions. 5-6 weeks to repair a gun that is defective out of the box is rediculous! I don't necessarily want a replacement but a fast turn around for a new gun is very reasonable.0 -

I am not trying to stick up for Taurus at all on this. I do own one of thier revolvers that I just bought a couple weeks ago, but I am a RIA fan myself.
5 to 6 weeks with shipping and all does not sound unreasonable to me. Plus as stated above they want to make sure it was not anything that you did to the gun.
I understand that you say you did nothing that would hurt it but they do not know you and only have your word to go by on that.
I know with me not knowing you and you say my product was flawed I would want to inspect it to make sure that it was truely flawed from my factory!

they probally will have it back in 1/2 that time. if you are such a stickler for the finest service $ can buy (not a $100 copy), next time buy the real gun from an overpriced shop.
I am confident they will still treat you fairly, even though you rant like a pompus gentleman. Taurus seems to do well resolving these things.

I've owned several Taurus products (I use the pt1911 as my CCW piece) and have NEVER had any problem of ANY kind.
Taurus is a fantastic company and they make a fantastic product. But no company can reach 100% perfection. Sorry to hear you got a bad gun.0 -

Also, please tell me where I can buy these guns for $100. At that price I think I'll buy a couple more.

Did you properly clean the gun before firing it? A small amount of protective shipping oil cold reduce the firing pin strike by a big nmargin.0 -
6 of my 36 guns are TAURUS i can't say any thing bad about them. when i cracked the cylinder on my 357 they fixed it for no charge and didn't ask any question. i would buy another in a heartbeat. maybe you got the plain pt22 and not the one with rosewood grips and gold accents like the one i have. 0 -
