Effective range of 9mm?
I was watching CSI Miami recently and they were suggesting that this guy used an Israeli Cornershot with a Glock 17 in it, killed a guy from I'd say around a hundred yards, a little more I think. I was wondering if this is even remotely plausible? (And no I dont trust everythind CSI says I'm just curious.)

If you could hit him yeah. I was with a group of guys we were shooting a ruger black hawk 9mm .357. They made impact in dirt and went in so a body would be about the same. The only thing is if you put the sight on the guy chances are you wouldnt come close but maybe if you were a bad shot already. 0 -
graveyard [xx(] at 100yd. And pay particular attention to the lower chart. The 9mm will shoot farther than the .45acp

My Artillery Luger has sights out to 800 metres. Out of the longer barrel the Germans were making hits on man-size targets to 250 metres according to contemporary manuals. Out of a regular pistol, I would expect a hundred yard shot could still easily prove fatal. 0 -
A 9mm Subgun will riddle a barrel at 200 yds. easily. 0 -

i had a friend(border patrol) shoot a guy @ 200yds with a browning hipower
course he used several mags.
actually met the guy afterwords(at the hospital), he had hit him in the as% (not moratlly)[:D0 -

That would be a weird conversation....and yeah if you could hit 'em, a 9mm would be leathal0 -
I was always amazed at how accurate my Browning High Power was out to about 100 yards! You could sit down with a nice gun rest and put most of the bullets in the same general area.
I suppose the ole 357 sig could do even better! Just a guess!0 -

I haven't shot my Browning 9mm target at 100 but at 50yds I could shoot a man size target in the head.0 -
Used to do a whole lot of shooting with a 1911A1. Could hit a jack rabbit 6 or 7 out of 10 tries at 90 to 100 yards, if he sat still.
They do use a lot of fuzzy science on CSI but yes, not at all hard to hit of mortally would a man at 100 yards with a 9mm. As long as it wasn't a Keltec.0 -
I've a couple of Colt 1911s, and if a man stands still at 100 yards he's getting hit. Fairly accurate shots with good autos aren't that hard at that distance. It's even easier with a revolver in something with some zip ala .357/.44 Mag. Practice, as with any hand/eye challenge, is the key. Try it, you'll surprise yourself. 0 -
I picked off this jack at 80 yds with my Glock 34. It took 1 shot to get the zero and got him with the second.
I have hit steel man size targets at 100 yds once I know how high to aim. If you have good ammo & gun the 9 is a great caliber.

I wouldn't want to be hit with a 9mm at any range... It could be lethal well past 1000 yards IF YOU HIT A VITAL AREA, such as neck or head, maybe not center mass, a simple 22LR if you hit someone as an effective range of 1.5 miles! a much more high powered 9mm could probably go at least 2 miles. The Corner shop device comes with specialty camera sights though, which could make it a little easier to hit a target at 100 yards easy.
Just because its a short barreled pistol caliber doesn't mean you cant give it the accuracy of a rifle, just look at all the carbine add ons for 45 apc and 9mm pistols.0 -

One of my shooting buddies has a 9mm Schmeiser MP40 SMG. (13") -
it's always a lot of fun to shoot, and along with the Uzi, perhaps one
of the best applications for the lowly 9mm[:D]0 -
Assuming a 9mm bullet, 125 grain, ballistic coefficent of .15, muzzle velocity of 1100 fps, at 100 yds you would still have 947 fps, and about 249 ft lbs of energy. A weapon zeroed at 50 yds would hit 7 inches low. Yes, doable. 0 -

VERY DOABLE! I've used a Kel-Tec P12 to hit steel targets(10" plates) at over 200yds, and the HiPoint carbine (mod995) can hit the same sized targets at 250yds all day long.
Once the range gets past 300yds, it might take a shot or two to get lined up, but it can be easily done.
I offered to stand at one end of a football field, armed only with a Grendel P30, and let my boss stand at the other end with his .45, and see who got popped first; he declined after seeing me take 2 shots at a running cottontail well past 100yds and hit with both shots. Granted, the bunny was down when I took the second shot.0
