The target grade 1911 from Colt has gone through a couple of different names over the years but I think they are all essentially the same gun with similar features.

The Gold Cup is no less robust than the Government Model. The only weak spot I ever hear about is that the roll pin holding the rear sight can break under full power loads. Mine never has and it's 29 years old and has been shot quite a bit and all of the shooting was done with full power ammo. If concerned a smith can install a solid pin in about 5 minutes.

Someone suggested changing the recoil spring for one from the GM and I did but they looked exactly the same and had the same part number. I don't think there was any difference at all.

    Here's mine made in 1978.

I have a Gold cup trophy... I have no idea what the difference is. I know one thing I have to have a lot of serious convencing before I'd come off it for any other 1911 on the market...Well maybe a Dlask..I reckon..Maybe!!!!

I have a Gold Cup Trophy and a Gold Cup National Match. I think the only difference is the roll marks on the slides. I've fired several thousand rounds with each, no problems. I did have a couple of misfeeds with both with hot loads until I upped the recoil spring a bit, and I also needed to re-form a couple of magazines' feed lips to get good reliability with the light semi-wadcutters.

My Series 70 Gold Cup National Match is a little more accurate, and I like its trigger pull better, but it's no more reliable than either of the Series 80 guns.
