Yep - younger guys, it was a little crazy back in those days if
you were a young long hair. Although, it wasn't a 'Summer of
Love' for me and many of my friends, some folks were living
it up!

I was home from the Army, living at the corner of Haight and Ashbury with short hair.
It wasn't just the "Summer of Love" - it was the DECADE of love for me. 1965 to 1975.
And, strangely enough, I didn't take drugs, except for a couple of occasions. The hippies were my friends, played music with me, fed me, screwed me and gave me places to sleep. Built a couple of VERY strange cars with a couple of them.
And, unlike many of the people who were my friends, I REMEMBER it all.

I'm very unimpressed with America in that time period. I can't stand hippys wish more had overdosed. Very embarressing time period in my opinion. [V] 0 -

What about the period we're living? Laziness, ignorance, culture of entitlement, personal debts are through the rough, morality is almost non-existent... the list goes on and on and on.0 -

I'm not proud of this time period either. I beleive we took a sharp down turn starting in the 60's. Drugs, sex, spitting on soldiers, and the list goes on.0 -

My freshly divorced mother loaded my brother and I up and took us to Calif. for the Summer Of Love. I was 7 years old and really didn't understand most of it. But I liked the hippies and the music and knew they were using drugs. It was a pretty scary and poor time. Alot of the time we didn't have much food and would live on peanut butter sandwichs and fruit we stole from a nearby orchard. I was only there a few months before mom got knocked up and sent us back to the midwest to live w/our dad. When we got off the airplane in KCMO my dad didn't recognize us because of our long hair. We got crew cuts the same day. Never lived w/mom again and only saw her a few times after that. She ended marrying a guitarist and settled in Tucson Az. When her husband died in the early 1990's she gave me his '69 Sunburst Stratocaster and Kustom Amplifier. She gave his Gibson Hummingbird to a friend of his. Mom passed away in 1995. 0 -

I agree with Kodiak,..........it was the beginning of the downslope of morals of any, and all kinds.
Things have not gone uphill since. Not blaming folks that lived responsibly during those times, but I believe that what we are seeing now, is a result of all the "fried" brains, and what happens when people like that, have children.

What a long strange trip it has been. I would say things started going down with the lies told about the Viet Nam war and the Watergate break-in, but if some perfer to blame the hippys that is ok too. 0 -
I was only 2 during the "Summer of Love," so I don't remember much. Had important things to do, like mastering walking and talking, copping an attitude with the parents. 0 -

Pretty sure. I tried to avoid being around the hells angels and the grateful dead. People were always dying and disappearing around those guys - and some other groups too. Also, I kept a very low profile, because one of my best friends - Andy Kinyon - was THE major acid wholesaler on the street.
Why do you ask ?? Did you know them or hang around with them ??

i rode with another club . talking with a few at different runs he was a legend to them. in that realm a well known man. just wondering. man you were there. amazing[8D] 0
