I usually carry a call for whitetail when I hunt, but rarely use it.Sometimes I`ll call useing my own voice just to stop a deer long enough to shoot.I`ve never called in a deer with a grunt tube and I`ve given up trying.

Here in my backyard I just call them by name. All I have to do is open the back door and throw out a handfull of corn and they come out of the brush and right to the door. Fun to watch.

    Kinda like eating your children?![:D]

I've tried several different calls. Never had any luck with them. I'm going to try to rattle one in this year.

A good pack of Walker hounds can't be beat when it comes to "calling" deer.[8D]

Iv used bleat calls during bow season and they work real good
Iv used grunt calls with luck also as long as I can see the deer but I have never called in a deer with one unless I saw him 1st.
I had a young spike a few years ago that I missed and he ran about 50 yards and stoped I used teh grunt and called him back in but never was able to the 2ed shot.

Primos bleet call during early bow season, some grunt calls by late bow. Bleets and grunts for November rifle season and Dec. muzzle loader.

I've used a call for years, but I'm not really sure if it has ever worked! Even though I have gotten many deer ... who can say if the call had anything to do with it? ... the call thing is not a sure thing for me. But I'm sure willing to try!

I like to try somethng new every year. Seems like there are a number of new deer calls, and I'm thinking about trying a new one. And suggestions? [?]

Where I'm at we can't use calls, feeders, deer urine ect. I can't see it being a hunt anyways using feeders. That's to easy, it's like walking in a city zoo and and pulling out your .270 rifle and taking your pick. I'm just jealous. [:D]

    Hey Mond,

I've tried several different grunt calls over the years with little success. At least until last season. I bought a cheap call at wal-mart. It is supposed to mimick the sound a buck makes just before he mounts a doe. The instructions say any buck that hears it will come running. Last weekend of bowseason, I set up and could hear a buck snorting back behind me. Long story short I started using the call. I had given up and had even got up and moved around some and had sat back down. I saw a deer coming in from my right to my left. Mis-judged the range and shot over the back of a nice 8 point. Coincidence? Maybe, but opening weekend of gun season I was moving through the woods and jumped a deer. White flag usually means I blew it but I got on the call and stood still. Shortly, a small buck comes back toward me from the direction the deer I jumped had ran.

Two weeks later, friday morning 9-ish, warm day I'm headed for the same spot where I missed the 8 point earlier. Ran into a tree across my fourwheeler lane and had to get off and walk. Again, jumped a deer. White flag and he's gone. I'm camo head to toe, just not my gun. I stand still and get on the grunt call. Several minutes later I hear something coming toward me, again from the same direction I last see the deer going. I wait and along comes a nice 7 point. He comes in about 20/25 yards. I stop him broad side with a soft bleat type sound I made with my mouth. He stops and looks at me. I drop him with one shot from a Remington 870, 00 buck shot.

I think this call is a keeper. I believe it works and will use it again. However, later in the season, toward the end of December I had no such reaction from several deer.

I think early season/early rut it is a buck magnet but later in the season it may acutally run them away from you.

    Bode

I've tried calling deer a few times. I've had several answer up, but I don't think I've ever actually called any of them in. I think it has more to do with the musician than the instrument. I think any of them will either work or not work depending on who is doing the calling. Of course the first trick is to be in a place where there are deer. I've never been willing to put in the time an effort to get good at it, so I don't use them now. Well, actually I haven't been deer hunting for two years. Usually when I deer hunt, I either go with dogs or just pick a spot in the woods and make a noise like an acorn. Eventually one of them will have his mind on other things and wander by. I haven't done it yet, but I've been threatening to lean out the dining room window and pop one in Thomas' pasture. [:D]

when i was young, my brother was the best call around. he'd huff puff snort trip crash cough spit fart snort cuss clang rattle, then drink coffee, smoke, eat, and pizz. i'd send him ahead and follow his trail 1/4 mile back and kill big deer. i used to laugh at the nut every year. miss hunting with him though. them deer were intent of gettin clear of him[:D][:D][:D] never used calls though, cept turkey calls, iv'e done that and big deer have come in[;)]

My late brother-in-law used to swear they would come to a running chainsaw. He said he saw a heck of a lot more deer while he was cutting wood than when he was deer hunting. He always said he was going to light off his chainsaw and leave it running at the bottom of his tree stand. He never did it, but it would have been funny if it had worked.
