relationship puzzle
Is it normal while in a relationship to not lend money to one another when one is in a tight spot?

depends on if the lender is an azzhat or not. 0 -

The lender is so-called girlfriend, wife, life partner, whatever. Someone one lives with and romantically involved, how's that?0 -
Sounds like one for Dear Abby.[;)] 0 -
That would be normal for me 0 -
Depends on whether you're the donor or the donee...[:D] 0 -

So, how does it work, you're married, but let's say something happened, and your partner needs some help. You simply refuse?
I can even generalize this a bit more, doesn't have to be money, it's just the simplest that comes to mind...0 -

It sounds like your mouth is writing checks that your body can't cash. Real big surprise there. I don't understand how someone posts threads about purchasing a new vehicle, a new house and new firearms, yet is now questioning why a "so-called girlfriend, wife, life partner, whatever" won't kick a few bucks down to save his miserable ass from the bill collectors? You sure complain a bunch about seemingly everything. You also give the impression that you deserve some special treatment and benefits. Guess what? You don't. [;)]

I think I'll be serious now..
Sneak, you ever watch Judge Judy or Judge Joe Brown on TV in the mornings? If not, watch a few. Around 80% of the cases are women trying to get back money they've loaned to some deadbeat piece of crap man. Usually to get his sorry butt out of jail on a drug charge. The ladies are "in love" don't you see?? And he's so lovable, surely he'll get a job next week...
Then there are those naive, trusting men who pay that fine booty gal's rent expecting to have a warm bed to sleep in forever more. She almost always takes the money and gives it to that derned drug puke above while our sweet benefactor gives up electric power to his house to pay for it.
I'm an old fashioned kind of person if you like. I believe men should earn their own way. I believe they should take care of their lady, not the other way around, but both can be conned, and at times, both can be cons..
I rest my case.0 -
oldgunner, so basically, what you're saying, you can't trust someone you married. got it! I was raised differently and certain behaviors while explainable aren't acceptable to me. I, personally, would give my last dollar to my gf/wife/family/friends (and a lot of times I do), but that's me, and I can't really understand why then live together, build a family, have children if in a tight spot one can't be counted on and has to turn to friends or bloodline family. 0 -
I just did an edit, but I'm still not taking sides exactly. I've just seen some nasty results from lending money to a lover. A spouse, well, maybe they could share a bit, if they've been together a while and have mutual trust. Why not? 0 -

Interesting... I am also not taking sides, just trying to understand. I personally wouldn't be able to honestly say that I'd spend my life with someone without seconds thoughts knowing I couldn't count on their help when it was needed.0 -
All I can say is I have done quite a bit to get my fiance's finances straightened out, and then to "teach" her how to handle money better.
I guess I have been lucky,.....never needed financial help to this point in my life, but I feel quite confident if I did need help, she would be there for me, without question.0 -
