Anyone here DIY with Duracote??
Anyone who has applied this coating have any suggestions or hints?? I think I may coat several rifles soon and am looking for advice relating to anything you discovered during it's use or anything you would do different etc?
should I parkerize them first?
how did you keep it off the lug rails?
how tough has it been thus far?

I can't help you but I just got a dealer's packet from them...I don't think I want to get into doing this. 0 -
Eric,..what's the deal? is sounds only slightly harder than a rattle can. I figured from what I have heard from around the other sites, it was tough and leaves a nice matte finish. Any reason you don't like it? 0 -
It's not that I don't like the product...they were trying to get me to be one of their "Certified Duracoat Refinishers" and offer it as a service related to my gun store. You have to attend a $400 workshop in WI to get set up with them. Then you have to learn how to do all these different kinds of camo/patterns they offer. It's just something that I don't have time to do...and I'm not sure I'd want to, if I did. It also takes some investment with the equipment, etc. I think it's supposed to be a pretty good product...just not something I want to mess with personally. 0 -
I tried the spray can application. It worked fairly well. Be sure you clean the metal well and bead blast it first. Also, make sure you do not touch the surface after cleaning. 0 -
I thought I saw that MVP did this (or something similar) on a couple of his pieces. I am interested in this myself. It takes an airbrush (if you don't want to use the spraycan) right? 0 -

you can use a HPLV gun, airbrush, or one other type to spray it. It also says that a simple degreasing with their product prior to coating will yield a very simple application that is supposed to be quite nice. I am not interested in any high gloss blue or whatever,...I want a tough, non-glare finish that will go on smooth enough to be a quality look compared to paint or something from a can. 0
