    I've seem them before, and tried it. Don't you just scrub the pencil thing back anf forth on it to make the call? That's how I did it. But maybe the noise I was making didn't sound like a turkey at all. Not sure as I have never gone turkey hunting.

    Usually, you tip the striker slightly away from your body.

    Start by making the letter "J", about an inch long

    Also make counter-clockwise circles. This makes yelping sounds.

    Short strokes make purrs and putts. Putt's are the warning calls for turkeys though.

    Soft short strokes make feeding sounds.

    Start by trying those.

    Sounds like cheap slate style call that does not have a sound chamber pot with it. They can work, but when you palm it make sure not to crowd the bottom of the call, leaving room for the sound to escape. Make sure you also lightly sand the area you want to run the peg across.
