I know a guy that did. His wife got ate by an alligator. At least that's his story and he's sticking to it.

I used to live on the stretch of the ICW, between Hobe Sound and Jupiter Florida.

Only from West Palm, to Jupiter Inlet, back in the day.
We mainly cruised the waterfront bars![:D][;)]

sailed down the Chesapeake Bay to Norfolk, entered the ICWW ("The Ditch") and made our way down to Ft Lauderdale, then across to Bimini Bahama's and eventually down the Exhuma Chain to Georgetown for Regatta week and the Junkanoo Festival. Lived on the Boat for 2yrs.[8D] Many parts of the ditch are beautiful,..but there is more of it that SUCKS. Long,..boring stretches of straight sailing in a muddy water, staright line for hours on end.[:(] However the areas that back up to long marshes with "guts" taking off in multiple directions can be stunning places to anchor and fish for the night. The sounds can be great places as well. Make a few runs off-shore to break up the monotony and it is a memorable trip.[^]

JustC, you lucky dawg...I'm green w/envy..I figured some of it would be just boring stretches of "ditch" but also like you said great places to anchor off for the night and fish..do salt water species go far inland or only slightly inland where its brackish?..pontoon boat sounds like a good way to go if it has enclosed space for sleeping/getting out of the weather etc..I'm sure there are lots of places to gas up along the way and a few..."bars"...Loko[8D]

To be honest, the fishing was spotty. Maybe being unfarmiliar with these areas I wasn't using the right bait[?] We even drug a shrimp net with no results. The rods didn't sing until we went out the inlets and went for a few days off-shore. The sounds are your best bet.

I would think brackish water baits and lures may have made a difference. All I have is salt water gear.

Wasn't a bad deal being home schooled and having the whole day to myself afterwards. It really only takes 2hrs to do everything you do in a whole day at school. Plus folks were in the school system[;)]
