I ran across a 1960 Winchester /Western catalog today in a gun cabinet,Mod 70 standard was $134.95, varmint was 149.50 and target was 185....african 305.00,westerner 144.95 and Alaskan in .338 144.95 as well, mod 61 pump in .22 lr was 61.95 and the new .22 mag 66.50, mod 42 410 was 101.85 for the standard 172.50 for the skeet and 239.00 for the DeLux. If I start reading off the Mod 12s' Ill start crying again! I bid 1500.+ today on a standard mod 42 and got rooted out! LMAO very best

Here's my serious reply... I know your pain... I hate it when I run across old ads for machineguns.... for example... 1921 Colt Thompson... $700 in good condition... $750 in excellent condition... if only my Dad and Grandfather were as into guns as I am, and had seen them as an investment as I still do... we'd be rich about now.0 -

Did you take notice that everybody today thinks what they have is rare.
Not only firearms but everything. Look at what a Hemi Cuda is going for. There was a car you could buy for a couple thousand. Now they sell for a million and up. What is it that makes everything so rare all of a sudden?[?][?][?]0 -

What makes things rare all of a sudden is peoples ability to destroy things. Take your Hemi Cuda, the people who owned them tended to use them rather harshly. They ran them into trees and off of roads and into other cars. They ran them too fast with little care and maintainance and blew the motors. Guns were the same way they wore them out or cut them down, or blew them up.
In 1964 Hasbro toys brought out the GI Joe. it cost a couple of bucks and kids loved them. They loved them so much they destroyed them. Today a mint early eyeliner small foot joe in the box is worth around 2000.00 There were literally 10s of 1000,s of these made
but because they were childrens toys that got destroyed mint ones can be worth 1000Xs their original cost0 -
In my old (back to the 50s) car magazines, I see ads for Carrera Speedsters (old Porsche) for $1,000 with the engine. A core engine for rebuild needing lots of work and some parts these days is worth 60-75k, and a running speedster (not carrera) is upwards of 120ish, and a carrera speedster adds another 100k. Don't like euro cars? How about an immaculate one owner 65-69 muscle car - your choice, cuda, camaro, mustang, etc - for $500 or less? 0 -

Another reason the prices are so high is because the demand is high. We are much wealthier as a society and have more disposable income than prior generations.0
