Oh contraire, my good little Komrade.

Democrats, who controlled the House for 40 years prior to 1994, and who controlled the Senate for all of Reagan's presidency except from 1980 to 1982, passed the MG ban. Title 18 922 (o). Which, it should be pointed out, was passed on a voice vote by Drunken "Tip" O'Neil, Speaker of the House, after it was added in Conference Committee. Efforts to get a roll call vote were voted down by the Demonkommies.

Reagan merely signed it, probably "advised" that the MG ban would be struck down on appeal.

RepublicRATS, passed the AWB. Even though the Demonkommies were still the Party in control of the House, where previous attempts to pass the AWB as a stand-alone measure failed by ONE vote. Arm-twisting by ReichChancellor Klintler, and good ol' PORK, ensured that scumbag traitors like Jon Kyl-R for Repulsively disloyal-AZ, voted FOR the AWB as part of the "Omnibus Crime Bill of 1994" (the infamous 100,000 cops on the street and "midnight basketball" porkfest).

That way, Dear ol' Jon could go home to angry gun owners and say "I voted against it!" Which, HE DID, as a stand-alone measure.

Didn't matter, the GOP lemmings voted him Senaturd the next election.

I ripped him a new one on a local talk station when he was guest-hosting, and he stammered and yammered, when called on his duplicitiousness, saying that there were enough good things in the OCB94 to justify the gun ban. I was quickly hustled off the air when I asked exactly how much it took to negotiate my Rights away.

The AWB would've died on the vine, except for Kyl and similiar, "moderate" (turncoat) Republitards. At the time, there were still too many Southern Democrats who had to go back to angry constituents in the Fall. Didn't matter, they took the blame with the rest. Sadly, the Yankee, homo-loving entrenched Eastern libs didn't feel any pain.

In a stroke of Machiavellian politicking, the GOP swept huge in 94, partly because of a wave of angry gun owners going to the polls and voting AGAINST the Party of Socialism, and even the "Cigar Aficionado in Chief" admitted it in a later State of the Union speech, spinning it with his usual brand of "is" by saying "Many of my colleagues lost their seats in this hall, so that little children wouldn't lose their lives on the streets from Assault Weapons." (What a POS)

Ah yes... the old tried-and-true Republican/conservative fall back: blame someone else.

"Oh no! Republicans never passed a gun ban! Why, it was those mean old Democrats! Or RINOs!"

Which party did Reagan and Bush I belong to and who had the power to veto their respective gun bans?

"But... but, but, but... but the veto would have been overturned!"

Which only goes to show you that Republicans are big at talk and short on action...

Ah, you are aware that Trotsky was expelled from the communist party, accused of plotting to kill Stalin, deported from the Soviet Union, and later assasinated by a Soviet agent. You need to pick a better communist to use as an example.

Actually, Democrats demanded the MG ban in exchange for loosening the laws on buying ammo. It was a trade-off. You may condemn the compromise but it wasn't the Republicans' idea to ban MGs (although they did go along with it to get the ammo bill through).

so our rights are bartered like that?! either we have the right to own machine guns or we don't! (...we do) that deal itself should show that such laws are illegitimate and should be annulled! trash the whole damn thing, they take the loss on whatever "compromises" or "deals" they gained for themselves. our rights come first. damn politicians.

Pinheads use the same argument when blaming the NRA for not passing laws to protect gun owners' rights.
Compromise is what our laws are created by; the NRA doesn't make laws.
Maybe some can grok what I'm saying here; the rest will have time to argue amongst themselves while their rights are compromised away in Congress.

and some mornings when I see what our government (both sides) is up to (and what gets argued about on this forum) I do feel an awful lot like a stanger in a strange land.

As I've said before "and this is why I hate them all."

(But I won't let the Lefturds, run their cock-sockets about stuff they don't know in an attempt to spin everything against the GOP)

It's also important to remember that the two most egregious firearms laws - the NFA of 1934 and the GCA of 1968 - were enacted by solidly majority Democrat congresses and signed by Democrat presidents. Those two laws are the ones that all subsequent gun laws revolve aound.
