I am a huge fan of the IOR's, http://www.valdada.com/ . I have 2 and would like more. I have a 6-24x50 with the 30mm tube that they do not make anymore and a 4-14-x50. Both have the MP8 reticle in them but one is the "dot" style and I really like it. I can post pics later, but I am on dial up till Sunday night.

If you are interested there is a guy that does group buys on another board and gets them for about 20% off listed prices. That is where I got my last one a few months ago and I will be buying more.

I have never personally Owned a Ziess but I am looking to get one to replace the rotten POS scope thats on it now that I sent back TWICE for repairs POS 1940's weaver. Now it wont hold zero to save your life. Im not sure was the scope on an original Mauser sniper rifle a Zeiss? the one that came with my grandads was or looked like it was Brass but it had been severly damaged beyond repair by a hand grenade.
I did really like the 3 post recticle it had in it though.

I am not sure who made those scopes, but IOR made the PE and PU scopes like you see on the MN rifles used by the Russians. IOR has been around for a long time making good glass.

I know Ziess is good too but I like my IOR. I have not tired NF but I hear great things about them.

Zeiss makes great glass, but aren't as much suited to "clicking to the target". Most have strange adjustment values and I don't see much reticle choice from them. I like the Nightforce NXS and IOR Valdada. USO is, IMHO, overpriced.

If I was going to drop that kind of coin on optics I'd look long and hard at IOR Valdada.

Speaking of scopes I really need a new one does anyone know of a rangefinding digital scope that actually tells you how far away the object is your looking at and doesnt have that gauge system like the ones at cabelas?

I really like the US Optics' big turn knobs and it's low profile adjustments (and they have all the cool add ons). I do have to agree the price on some of them are really up there (that's why I mentioned the $2K max to include them some what[:D]).

ECC - I see IOR is little less than Nightforce in price. If that's the case I'd go with Nightforce since they seem to stand by their scopes. Did they get bought out? I seem to recall hearing something about that.

Cyclonus - You seem to want alot from a scope from 1940 (it needs to take a nap and rest). I'm sure you got your money's worth and then some over the years[:D].

I was leafing through my new Western Hunter loaded with scopes and the prices while on the can (too much Peppermint Ice cream[:D]). I totally forgot about Swarovski (Doesn't Zeiss own them? I seem to recall reading that).

I've also read Leopold is really close to Zeiss in glass.

I'm not much for drawings (I can barely draw stick people[:D]).

"Austria is a rightful State of the Reich.

Since the Anschluss, of the Third Reich as well, nicht wahr?

Also, the birthplace of der Fuhrer.

I saw this mentioned and I looked at their goodies. SWFA Super Sniper the price seems too good to be true. So I'll have to ask is it? I'm from the school of "Buy it Cheap, Buy it Twice" so I have to question it.

Well got the bonus and I think Nightforce will be topping the rifle. Now which one shall it be since most of them are basically a few dollars difference.

New question; 56mm Bell does that really make that much difference from the 50mm? I mean 6mm[:D].

    I'm also trying to decide on which power a 5.5-22 or a 8-32? We're talking .308 round

So given a choice between 5.5-22 or 8-32 and 50mm or 56mm which combo will you pick?

    What distances? Shortest to longest?

I'd say the 5.5-22 will handle most of your needs. An 8-32 for a 1000yd gun. Either way a 50mm objective will suffice.

Well that's a lot of pennies from my looking (a grand more than what I was liking to spend) I have enough trying to reason spending $2000[:D]. I like the Schmidt & Bender PM II "LP" with the parallax adjustment (but the price[V]). I know all about "buy it cheap, buy it twice" but I recon spending $1500-$2000 isn't cheap. As nice as S&B 3 Grand is too much (hell my last car didn't even cost that much[:D]). I'll keep an eye out for used though.

USO, S&B, are overpriced. The Nightforce does it all, with unyielding perfection.
