Out in California I used to buy watermellon for the kids all the time.

Here in South Carolina it is just to damn expensive!

They are small, do not have the flavor, and they cost $5-$6 each!

And it is not just watermelon. I have found that most produce is expensive out here.

I do save a little bit at a produce stand that is about 1/2 mile from the house here, but even some of there stuff is a bit high.

Watermelons around here have gone up crazy in price this year too, Kevin. Next year I will plant my own in the garden. Usually don't like to as they run everywhere and take up lots of space. But at $5 a pop, I gotta get my melon fix somewhere! We like the "Yellow Baby" melons better than anything else.

In california I used to buy them all the time for about 15 to 25 cents a pound!

I would get a nice big one for under $4

Here in N Florida there are *lots* of watermelon fields.. An expensive $4 watermelon here has no seeds... if they have seeds, you can get big ones for $3 or $4 .... We'll buy one or two a week from the locals wiht the pickups full of 'em on the corners... Saw a good deal on target sized ones last week, a bit bigger than a softball (clearing the fields for next plantings) 5 for $3...

Don't guess you'd want one from down here. We are getting $10 a piece for the bigger ones(40 lbs+). Very sweet, too. Smaller ones go for around $4.
