Jasper engines

Thinking about getting one for my truck. Anyone have any opinions.

    Supposed to be top of the line. Don't have any personal experience with one.

    Check up on them on the internet, Last I knew they had a very good warranty, something like 3-4 years and 75,000 miles. They are pricey but I only know of one engine locally that had a problem, The head had a couple of helicoils but the warranty was still in effect.

    A friend runs a large shop in Tuscaloosa. He believes in Jasper engines.

    Talk to your mechanic or another mechanic that will tell you. I called and asked about a JASPER transmission for my '97 Suburban and the estimate not including shop fees and fluids was over $3000. The mechanic I ended up with told me about the GM plan. I got a GM transmission from GM in the crate for $1700. My mechanic installed it and now I have 3 years or 100,000 miles to tear this one up. Some shops can't get it with the warranty because they are not certified mechanics. Make sure of this. GM is doing it on engines and trannys.

    There have been several folks around here who have used their products and seemed pleased with what they got. My dad toured their plant several years ago and was impressed with how good a job they were doing at that time in prepping the engines before they even began to work on them. Proper cleanup before you begin to rebuild was and is important to him, and he liked their work.

    We had one in a Chevy dually that came from them. After about 10K miles it started to make a ticking, I thought it was just a leaking exhaust donut, but it turned out to be a bad lifter. Jasper replaced all the lifters on the engine for free.

    Jasper stands behind their work and have always been helpful with any questions I've had for them. They know their stuff. The company went down hill a few years back and the employees stepped in and got together and brought the company and have been running it every since. Their engines do cost more, but keep in mind your getting a remanufactured engine and not a rebuild. There is a differance. Rebuild is repalceing what's wore and leaving what's not alone. Remanufactuing is the next best then to new. I think in Jasper's case just the block is used(not sure through). Call and talk to them they are very nice people to deal with.

    What kind of motor are you wanting and what is wrong with your engine now.

    You don't say what kind of truck. But I would look into a crate motor from the manufacturer.

    My Ford Bronco got a new crate motor in it and got a 2 year 24000 mile warentee from Ford. Of course Ford did all the instalation work and all. But I probly have the only 94 Bronco that does have a warentee from Ford at this time! Ford also installed the K&N intake, Mallory ignition system, and FlowMaster exaust at the time they installed the motor.

    This motor now has about 16000 miles on it and was installed about 18 months ago and has never skipped a beat!

    I have one in my 82 Chevy 4x4, beat the crap out of it, no problems as of yet.

    Going to get one for a 1999 ford f 150 and the guy told me 3400 for am motor. Ford wants 3300 and jasper probably rebuild theirs anyways.

    That 3300 from ford, is that rebuilt or a crate motor? That seems a bit high for rebuilt considering my crate motor installed with the extras I listed above was only $5000.

    I think it was a crate. but ford usually contracts out the remanufature process and the jasper warranty is 3 years or 75,000 not matter who puts it in the truck with ford it has to be them and i have had my fill of dealership mechanics. I will not take mine back to a dealership ever again

    A crate motor is not a remanufactured. A crate motor is brand new just like you get from a brand new car or truck.

    I bought mine after the new crate motor was installed, but it had next to nothing for miles on it and had only been in for about 6 months. I know what it cost because I have all the paper work from ford when they did the work.

    Funny thing is I paid $200 less for the whole bronco than what the cost of the work was.[:D]

    As far as your experience with dealerships, there are good ones and there are bad ones. I have a very tiny ford dealership right near me that happens to be very good.

    been out of the car repair biz for some time but did use them while there .unless working on a gm product then we went to the dealer for replacement engines ,almost the same price (then) for a new one .
