A complete computer meltdown!
Lost my hard drive! Yesterday, it totally died. Late last night/early this morning, I got a backup hard drive I had laying around (actually a pull out from the PC I set up for Highball) and started reloading everything. Wow, what a pain!
I'm thinking after I get everything reloaded, I'll go pick up a new hard drive, copy the system to it, and save this old clunker drive as an emergency restore drive so I don't have to go through this BS again!
Worst of all, I lost all my saved emails and my personal address book. I hate things like this!

Invest in an external USB hard drive for backup purposes. They are relatively inexpensive and will save a lot of frustration and work when and if your internal hard drive crashes. I've been using an Iomega 80GB external hard drive for backup for several years. You can designate which files/folders are to be backed up and how often.

try slapping the drive on your knee - it works about 1/2 the time. 0 -
RAID 1 isn't for enterprise anymore. Consider mirroring drives in your workstation -- an extra couple of hundred dollars is nothing compared to having lost all of your data. 0 -
I have a 200 hundred Gig seagate external drive, I back things up often!!! 0 -

I lost a Western Digital a couple years ago. Lost baby pics and all kinds of good stuff. I miss it.

that's 1 reason i started with hotmail when they first came out, even back up drives can fail, i secure everything on disc every few months, and have mirrored date on several computer
have you tried using it as a slave disc long enough to retrieve your data?0 -

Danny,
If any of the lost information is really important, there are places where you can take the drive to have the data recovered. However, it ain't cheap (many of them charge by the MB).
As far as making a backup, if you've re-installed everything new and haven't done much 'computin' since doing that(where registers have been changed etc.); there is a piece of software out there which works pretty well called Drive Image. You can create a "image" of your drive on DVD/CD. Save you having to have more than one drive.

I don't know what happened with my last post. The last thread I was on was about golf carts.When I saw my last post on this thread I shut the net down. My desktop did not look the same.My desk top had a purple golf cart for a back ground.I did a system restore and everythings back to normal on my side.Sorry if I screwes this thread up. 0 -

Western Digital hard drives are pure junk. After stripping thousands of drives for scrap, all I can say is W.D.'s drives are the cheapest built drive out there.
