Do you check out other people's junk?
I always have. Driving by or around in different areas/places---I always scope out old abandoned cars, trucks, boats, tractors or "just plain junk" behind people's houses, empty lots, etc. I've seen a lot of abandoned items that I wouldn't mine having.

I am in a pretty rural area so it is often hard to see the goodies from the roads. They are always hid behind trees and buildings.
Now an airplane ride is the way to scope out treasure. Took the kid up for his birthday last year with a charter from the local airport. Spent a couple hours flying over farm places and spotting old equipment, cars, and other treasure[:)]0 -
I'm always doing that. I once went on a 3 day road trip for no other reason then to see if I could find any old cars out in someones field. Did't find any cars I wanted, but I did find a pretty decent horse trailer. 0 -

About a month ago I spotted a newer HP case at the curb, I picked it up, it is a 1.3 celeron, 40 gig HD 256 ram[:D]
Somebody tried to install xp pro over xp home[:0]

Yep, total junk cruiser - some of the best junk viewing is from taking train trips! Stuff you won't see from the road, in full view of Amtrack. Only hassle is you can't pull over and knock at the door.[:)] 0 -
Every Sunday evening, especially this time of year when the weather is nice and folks in my semi up scale neighborhood are spring cleaning. Wife came home the other day said someone was getting rid of a pool slide, the 5 minutes it took me to get there someone else had beat me to it. [:(!]

i just got rid of some carpets and patio chairs....all i do is put it out day before junk day with a sign saying...WORKS or FREE. its gone in 6 hours.

Funny this should come up tonight. I was talking earlier with someone who had some of his "junk" recycled for him. An old cast iron caldron and a couple of other things someone just decided to relieve him of without asking first.
I have an uncle who has pretty much every vehicle he's owned since the 60's sitting in his pasture out back. With the price of scrap metal being what it is I thought about asking him if I could haul them off for him.0 -

Went out east of our place about 45 miles way out in the sticks to hunt pd's on this widow ladies place. We were shooting a few dogs and I thought I would walk on the backside of her place to see if any were back there. There was an old vehicle junk pile ( trucks ,tractors ,Etc) and I find a 1970 split bumper Camaro sitting there. I asked her later if it was for sale and she told me to just take it. Going to pick it up in a couple weeks[:D][8D] 0 -
I'm a junker. The last time I took the train from Seattle to LA, I spotted lots of neat stuff - mainly old cars - at the places that backed up to the railroad right-of-way.
Next time I do it, I'm taking a GPS and coming bak to the markers by car - see if I can score any good ones. Should be a fun road trip!!

My old man was a real junkie and could not drive past a garage sale without stopping in to look around for treasures. Sometimes he found them (tools or plumbing supplies for pennies on the dollar) but for the most part the junk he bought just piled up in our garage or out in the storage shed in the backyard.
"Look at this lamp Merek, it must be worth much more than $2".
"It is not even worth five cents Pop unless we put on a new cord, a new shade, new harp and fit it with a new switch".
"Is for you to be loading it into the van and not for making with the smart talk".
When Pop died most of that junk was still sitting around and we had our own garage sale.0 -

I pick up beer & soda cans & bottles from trash and beside the road to recycle for .05 and I'm buying & building my new muzzle loader with the proceeds. 0 -

I have an uncle who is a dumpster diving pro. He sprays colonge on his shirt sleeve and right before he sticks his head in the dumpster, he sniffs his sleeve to offset the smell of the trash. He does find some good stuff. He once found an old regulator wall clock that he sold for a few hundred bucks. He cleans up the junk and sells it at garage sales. He uses the procedes to finance his hunting and fishing trips. 0 -

I picked a bunch of garbage one day and out of one pile in front of the crappiest house on street, I picked an old Coca-Cola cooler, Old Skil chainsaw, at least 12 paper Mache duck decoys, a bundle of fishing poles, fish bow,reel, and arrow! Along with som other rif raf!! I sold most of the stuff wuthin days and everyone was happy!! Still have and use the bow,reel, and arrow!0 -
I live on an Air Force base and you should see the stuff on the curb before bulk trash day. I guess it is because there is such a high rate of people moving and the fact that we are limited on how much weight the gov. will move or pay us to move. I helped a person clean their house and they gave hundreds of rounds of ammo and my buddy a bunch of tools and an air compressor because they were going overseas. 0 -
We have a big dumpster on the side of our house because we are remodeling. Moving every wall but one actually. So as we tear out walls, windows and floors the pile grows. EVERYDAY there is someone in the dumpster getting stuff out of it. We simply put up a sign that says they can get what they want but that they do so at their own risk. 0 -

I LOVE junk! ...especially old tools and machines. I find the older stuff was made better, so in the process of fixing them up you "learn" about this equipment how to operate and maintain it. Granted you can't turn on the computer and have it automatically make 60 parts with no help and in minium time, but you can make one part! Plus you don't have to throw the machine away when it does break, you just fix it. I have a 95 yr.s long Monarch lathe in my garage now. It works better then the 20 yr. old Logan lathe I did have! *G* 0 -
