College Football & Undefeated Hawaii
Should undefeated Hawaii play for the national championship if they beat the Washington Huskies tonight? Last week they beat Boise State who last year went undeafeated and beat the vaunted Oklahoma Sooners in a bowl game. Would the Hawaii Warriors rate to play for the national championship if they win tonight?

Why not? I get amused by all the people complaining about MO getting a chance to play for the championship if they beat OK. Usually it is LSU or Ohio State fans doing the complaing. If you beat everyone on your schedule, why not? It's almost like folks who like the "major" teams think they have a God-given right to play in the championship. That's why I'm pulling for MO tonight, and was hollering for Boise last year. I say let the Rainbow Warriors play! Would love to see their qb destroy some hoti-toti high-falutin "major" school! 0 -

I'm inclined to agree with you to some extent after watching Boise State beat Oklahoma last year. However, as much as I'd like to see such a game, the strength of the Warriors schedule would be hard pressed to compare with most of the teams rated above them that have one or two losses. Still it would be very exciting.0 -

I agree, but you have to play who you schedule, and win all the games. Tell that to Michigan after a 1-AA team whipped them at home! And for weak schedules, look at Ohio State! For a major team, they play loads of cupcakes!! Youngstown State, Kent, Akron, even Washington! And that's just this year! They do it EVERY friggin year!0 -

OSU played Texas the last two years. The next two years they play USC. If you want to look at strength of schedules you need to look at the real numbers, not what people are saying. Take a look at OU (62), or Hawaii (117), BSU (110), Kansas (82) WVU (48), USC (79). What is OSU SOS you ask? 46...
So before people go complaining about OSU they should look at the numbers. They are available on the NCAA sports website.
As for Hawaii, yeah they should probably play in the BCS, but not the championship game. I don't think they are near as good as BSU of last year. That team was packed with seniors and good QB.0 -
Hawaii went to OT with LA Tech, and won when Tech went for 2 on the first OT & didn't make it. LSU beat LA Tech like a yard(bull)dog. LSU played 7 or 8 ranked teams, and didn't lose a game in regulation. LSU-Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl would be a joke. 0 -
If Hawaii plays in the BCS title game, I'll quit watching college football
If they want to play with the big boys, they need to schedule the big boys. Don't cry to me about getting "shut out of the title game" when your non-conference schedule includes Charleston Southern and Northern Colorado.
Everyone remembers Boise State barely beating Oklahoma, but nobody seems to remember the Broncos getting destroyed by Georgia (48-13) the year prior......0 -

There's an Ohio State fan! Look at NEXT year's schedule. They open with that great football powerhouse Youngstown State. Oh boy! Then they play Troy. TROY! But don't forget that OHIO team. Boy, they put the fear of God in another team!
And in 2009, a REAL KILLER of a schedule. They open with Army. Then play Toledo. Yep, TOLEDO! And then they have a wonderful matchup on Halloween with New Mexico State! Geesh!
You would hope 2010 would be better. But nope. Open with the Thundering Herd of Marshall. Play Army again. Miami is on the schedule. Who have they beat in the past 3 years? Nobody!
On top of those scheduled games, they play in what is arguably the WORST major conference in the country. Northwestern? Please. Indiana? Nope. Purdue? Yeah, they are tough. HA! Iowa? Not since Hayden Fry resigned, oh, about 10 years ago.
Ohio State has built their recent rep by beating cupcakes, and then Michigan. I don't blame them though. If that's what it takes to get in the BCS, more power to them. But IMHO...play some GOOD teams out of conference, because LOrd knows there aren't many in the Big 10!0 -
Oklahoma could have likely pulled off another TD to run the score up, but they let the clock run out with a 38-17 win over No. 1 Mizzou. 0 -

OSU plays USC third game of the season next year in LA. You are one of those homers that just can't be reasonable.
Oh wait, lets look at the 2009 schedule, oh they play USC again.

Very true. However, I can remember when Penn State had gone undefeated about two or three times before they got a shot at a title game for similar reasons. I also remember when BYU was a nobody with year after year of undefeated teams, but they like Penn State eventually got respect by hammering some more laudable teams. I could recount many other programs that have had to earn respect that went on to hammer the biggest of teams, like Miami, who could not buy their way into a bowl game, but through getting a shot at some big games they went on to win many national titles. The point is, some teams like Penn State, and BYU, and the Boise States have earned the right to get in the big games when they went undefeated, but were kept out by the powers to be. I can also remember when San Diego State back about 1964 was voted the number one small college in the U.S. over Lamar who was number two, and guess who was number one Division 1 team in the nation who had them scheduled the following year, but refused to play them at the time by taking them off schedule - yours truly, the Ohio State Buckeyes - and they were very wise not to have played them, because San Diego State would have probably hammered them bigtime!
After checking some old stats, Ohio State was not number one as I noted above, but I do remember that they were either scheduled to play the Aztecs, or they had been extended a bowl invitation to play them, and they ended up bowing out - a wise decision if you ask me, since the Aztecs were a small college at the time who had the capacity to whip up on them.0 -

Hawaii is coming back. 21-28 with 12 minutes to go in the 4th. I have watched them play a couple of times this year and the 2 things I really like about them are: the have a solid QB and they always seem to be able to step up in close games. We will see if that holds true tonight I guess.

I also like their ability to step up when they need it. They did it last week, against Neveda, ect. I think Hawaii has set up an offensive system that is very QB friendly. I mean if without Brennan, the back up did very very well for his first start last week, or was it 2 weeks ago? There defense isn't very good though and they have not played a good offensive team all year.0 -

In no way am I a homer. I am not a fan. I see things realistically, not with rose-coloered glasses as a fan does. OSU consistently plays one of the weakest schedules in the country. It works to get them in the BCS, but because they are THE Ohio State University, folks think they are better than they are, or deserve something that they really don't because of their usually gaudy record. So they play USC the next two years. So what. They also play Youngstown and Kent and Army. WOW! Those are really tough teams!0 -

BTW, the BCS is a mess right now and I doubt it will survive the off-season without a complete re-vamping. It certianly needs it IMHO.

Thats the main problem with the BCS though. They revamp it or try to every year. Hell they did it 3 weeks ago when they realized they might not have enough eligible teams. It sad, every other college Division and every other sport has some sort of tournament. NCAA DIa football is the only sport in which the NCAA doesn't not officially accept a champion.0 -

As I said before, I don't blame OSU. They do what they have to do to get to the BCS. The BCS is where the problem lies. And it just isn't me. All the supposed "experts" say the same thing about the BCS and OSU's schedule. It sucks! Both of them do.
BTW...I am not a MO fan. I was pulling for them because I wanted to see all the fans of the so-called powerhouse traditional teams squirm and scream and yell that their team is better. Well...better based on what? Wins and losses? Not if MO had of one! And it is debtable even now if anyone but OK is better than MO. I love it when the underdog stands up and tries to bit the big boys on the arse!0 -
