How often do you clean your
Guns. Me myself I clean mine after every time I shoot them. Whether I shoot one round or 500.
The reason I am asking is that, The other day while I was at one of the gun shops I frequent. A man walked in with his AR(Bushmaster) he had bought a year ago. He told the gunsmith he needed it cleaned. He also added that he has never cleaned the gun from the time he had bought it. And has put 3500 rounds through it and never had a problem at all.
To me that is insane, So I ask how often do you clean your firearm.

I clean mine after I use them. I also pull them out of the safe every once in a while and wipe them down if I haven't had the chance to shoot them for a while. 0 -
I clean them after every use. To do otherwise is careless. A lot of ignorant people around here will complain about their old rifle being "shot out" because they've never run a patch down the bore! 0 -

seems to me 3500 is an awful lot to go without cleaning, he must have at least lubricated it a few times in those 3500 to keep it functioning.0 -
usually after every use...I have slipped a couple of times and cleaned them maybe about 3-4 days after shooting them. No corrosive ammo though. 0 -
Every time. I had a friend who never cleaned his and when shooting it 4 rounds got stuck in the barrel and cracked it. 0 -
After every range time and long term storage firearms once a year. 0 -
the AKS haven't been cleaned..
the wheel guns stay clean oiled and not used..
my carry piece a usp40 hasn't been cleaned since I bought it six months ago..0 -

definitely agree with you there dive,
i was reading the users manual for the m1A the other day(just checking it out, dont own one yet)
and it said that field striping the rifle to clean it was not necessary every time
and that if you take your rifle apart too often you can effect the accuracy and performance of the rifle,
do you guys field strip your semi auto (or full auto where permitted)
AR type guns every time or is just brushing swabbing and oiling the barrel good enough?
i am a new gun owner and am not to sure on all of the aspects of maintaining my weapon.0 -

And slackmason I field strip my AR as with every gun I own, after shooting it. and I clean all my guns(ones I hardly shoot anymore) twice a year, then I wax them. My be a little anal but like divebomb said it therapeutic. Instead of choking the crap out of a family member or two, I got shiny guns instead.[:D]0 -
I clean mine when I get a hankerin' to clean em. Some rifles get Butches Bore Shine every 40 rounds or less. I have shot a S&W 25-2 over 300 rounds in the last two days and will just wipe the outside off for now.
Cleaning is not a timed thing it is more weather related.0 -
I took a Federal Government law enforcement course a couple of years ago. We fired over 1200 rounds through an H&K .40 without cleaning it. That was done to show the reliability of the weapon. Then we cleaned them and fired for the final qual. Not a single misfire/misfeed at all.
Personally, I clean 'em every time I come home from the range.0 -

depending on the gun
if i'm practicing for a upcoming match, i would be shooting it several times in a week, typically 500 rounds per session
1911 500-1000 rounds will get a slide off barrel, outside they frame cleaning, every 1000-1500 rounds a complete tear down to the last pin with the exception of the ejector and plunger tube
glock double sometimes triple the round count

Or do you do a meticulous job on your gun,
getting it clean as a whistle,

Clean them after evey trip to the range....
Guns that I don't shoot much I will clean every six months or so...
My mags get a quick wipe down when used and taken apart after about 600 rounds or so....
My carry peice gets lubed once per week....0 -

Field stripping the AR type weapons isn't the issue, it's when you're routinely pushing the pins out of the lower that problems start to crop up.0 -

I do not find cleaning them therapeutic at all.
I find it laborious and time consuming. When I go shooting, I usually take around 6-10 handguns/rifles. I only get out to the range about 1/month so I take a few toys when I do.
I've found myself cleaning guns for hours. Yes, I clean the mags as well.
Its kinda like when I go boating. I end up spending hours cleaning it and putting away gear. Sorta kills the fun a little.0 -
It depends on the gun, the 10/22 gets cleaned when it starts to malfunction, but the 40X gets cleaned between targets. Most everything else is someplace between those two. 0 -

It depends on the gun. Most of mine are stainless and not for personal defense. those I rarely clean. My blue revolver gets cleaned every time I touch it. I rarely shoot it because it was my first gun (I got it when I was 7).
I took my xd to the range one saturday after carrying it for months IWB without more than wiping it off, shot a couple hundred rounds through it, wiped off the outside, carried it for a couple weeks, shot another couple hundred rounds through it no problem just to test it. I cleaned it after that.0 -

...Everytime after their shot, cleaned & Flitzed (Love that stuff!) mags too [:D]
... Guns come out of the safes to get cleaned when I feel like it, and Flitzed..2-3 times a year.
...1911's get stripped like 1911A1 described, but about at half the round count for me.
...The ONE exception is a Ruger MKII w/BB I bought new in the 80's...no idea how many 1,000's of rounds thru the thing...and Ive NEVER stripped it, just bore,mag well, bolt/reciever area I can get too [:0], mag and frame clean...nary a hiccup, yet...[;)]

I don't shoot corrosive ammo so maybe once a year. 0 -
I taught my 7YO to clean them...now I just watch. But he enjoys it 0
