Why would the grandfather need a permit for the revolver at his daughters house?
Why mention it? make it seem like only properly licensed individuals can handle a gun?

Yep. You commit violence against an innocent party (breaking into their house for example) that innocent party has the right and almost obligation to assume you plan on doing the worst.
That means if the intended victim is able, he/she has the right to do the "worst" to the attacker first.
Course the liberals don't see it that way. To them no one is actually a criminal; well not by choice anyway. And the criminal's life is just as precious to the liberals as is your life and the lives of you innocent family.0
