Gun At Work ??
Anyone here carry or have a gun at work ? (exluding cops). I just read that almost every state allows people to carry a loaded, concealed gun at their place of employment but I didnt know if that extended to owners only or everyone. My neighboors wife just opened up a small clothing retail store and I told him that she should have or carry a gun there. He thought the idea was INSANE !! I forgot I was in Los Angeles, lol

By our company rules, we are not allowed to carry at work, but it isn't called "Concealed" carry for nothing. I guess I will get fired if some disgruntled employee comes to work and starts shooting and I have to put them down. 0 -
I work at home. Plenty of guns, no co-workers. Fridge full of beer.Gets a little boring. 0 -

Yeah, I always have at least one weapon on me at work. Two are three loaded rifles behind the counter to take care of the getaway cars too.[:0][:p][8D]

Of course she won't carry at her store. Because when the violent perp planning on robbing and maybe killing all witnesses comes in the door with his gun, then there would be TWO guns in the store. I am sure that any self-respecting anti-gun person could just plain not stand for that to happen. I mean, think of the danger of having not one but TWO guns in her store. Who knows what would happen then.

dont see the point in it. Not worth losing a job. But Im one of the lucky few who can carry an M4 or on lucky days crew served. If you scared of work place violence, theres more ways to die everyday. Like car crashes, Roads claim 40K+ lives a year. 0 -

It's not paranoia or fear, it's simply an insurance policy, no different that car insurance. I have a fairly new Chevy farm truck that only leaves the farm maybe once a month for a gasoline fill-up. I still carry insurance on it. Chances are I'll never need it, but the day I drop coverage an oilfield worker flying through the farm will hit it.
Burglaries, robberies and muggings don't happen just in the "hood". Watch the news, they happen at the red light a block from your home, at your corner car wash, or at your favorate grocery store. Places you'd least expect it. I expect it everywhere and am aware of my suroundings always. Bad world we live in, just doing my part to not become a victim.

Most large corporations have work rules against bring weapons into the workplace. A knife longer than three inches is considered a weapon. 0 -
I've carried a gun at work/school for one week although it was technically illegal.
There was a good reason for that: within the first two days of the week I got: sick, got a notice that I did not get into one of my grad school choices, main PC died, investments suffered a mini-crash.
At the rate things were going I was convinced that I would surely be confronted by a life-and-death situation before the week was out.0 -
you go to work one day. it doesnt matter what you do. a person, either employed by the co or otherwise, decides that day to come in and kill anyone who allows it to happen.
scenario a: you dont have a gun with you. you die.
scenario b: you do have a gun with you, in clear violation of your companies policy. you might still die, however you might also be able to sucessfully defend yourself and your coworkers/firends. assuming you live, you might face disciplinary action up to and including termination. in which case you take that xerox box, pack your crap and do something the frist scenario doesnt allow, GO HOME AND BE WITH YOUR FAMILY. then next day, find another job.
get out a balance beam if you need help with this one.

WORK happens to be a 4 letter word! So there for I don't work![:D]
But seriously, when I drove truck there were times that I did have a gun in the truck. I usually had it back in the sleeper and could not have gotten it while sitting in the drivers seat. But I was more concerned with someone trying to get inwhile I was sleeping in the truck as I slept in some pretty tuff areas around LA (Compton, Pico Rivera, Watts, and others) at night waiting for places to open so I could deliver. I liked haveing a little extra insurance in the truck with me for those areas.
I would never have messed with anyone trying to get the load (I would have just made a call for that) but if they would have tried to get in the cab I would not have hesitated.0 -

Not every day but if I know I'm working over after closing time than yes .
1 million $'s plus in cars in my building alone .
Most peolpe "hanging" around or driving through our lot just want to see the cars , not worth taking a chance though .

every day. im lucky i guess, when there are big pick-ups the boss calls me to follow place to place and stand guard till all is secure and in bank. other times he just has me do it all for him.
on the job several local leo have stated, "hope you are carrying when you are here, the locals will shoot/knife you for the change in the machines"!
gang types in the area trying to claim the places, have been threatened over stupid crap like a machine not working, (usually cause their'e too stupid to count how many coins they have put in [:(]) couple times knives drawn over as little as $10 -
I carry a Seecamp daily while at work, and my clients and co-workers don't seem to mind.
It's no big deal; just be discrete about it.0 -

My previous employer had the same rules: no guns on you, no guns in the company-provided cars.
Of course, I violated that rule regularly -- always kept a gun under the front seat of the company-provided car.
I got sent into some pretty lousy neighborhoods where even the cops don't like to go -- and I figured that if the company wanted to fire me for defending my life, then it would be better to live fired than die employed. Moreover, I worked a job that sometimes elicited violent reactions from disappointed clients.
Thankfully, I never had to use the gun and my employer never discovered that I was violating company rules.0 -
If I owned a public business I would like my employee's to be armed. I would not require it, but I would train each one defensive tactics myself. It would be a more peaceful enviroment. 0 -
When I was workin' at the shop in town,I kept a handgun well hidden,but easy to get to, in my desk,but never carried it on me.
No one but me knew it was there,so I guess it's like "What they don't know won't hurt'em".
I don't think they would've minded anyway.

Actually 2 & 1/2 inches or more is considered a weapon.
Actually, try carrying ANY sized knife through US Govt. security checkpoint and you will soon learn that ANY sized knife is a weapon.0
