The NRA
I join the NRA today. I'm getting to know/learn more and more about firearms. I've come to be very comfortable around guns and even find myself working on or shooting them instead of doing other things also I enjoy. I want my son to be able to enjoy the same firearms that I and his father have enjoyed and starting today I'm going to take a more active part in the fight for our gun rights.

No sweat...more in line with the NRA position anyway.

there's also CCRKBA (Citizen's Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms)NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation)JFPFO (Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership) SAF (Second Amendment Foundation)GOA (Gun Owners Of America)etc., and state-level organizations. if you check around, you may find another one that suits your ideals even better. plus, nothing wrong with being a member of more than one organization.

Congratulations and welcome to the largest, most effective gun rights group in the world!
You might check to see if your state has an affiliate of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and join them as well; they are the ones that meet with your state legislators and do all the grassroots stuff that keeps our rights secure.
I've always been active in my state's Shooting Sports Association due to my inordinate interest in firearms and Constitutional law. We were able to pass a CCW bill here the 4th time out of the gates, and we're working on some even more interesting legislation for next year.0 -

Exactly and well said.
Also, in particular, I would rather associate with homosexuals than anti-gun people. Mainly because anti-gun people are almost always also "anti-self defense people" and that is just plain goofey. Such anti-self defense people have only one basic plan, if they need some kind of action to save the lives or themselves or their family.
Their plan is to "be saved by the professionels or just plain die".0 -

Yep. And so many gunners won't believe that the anti-gunners will lie, cheat and steal in order to disarm only the peaceful, law-abiding citizens . Since the outlaws are "outlaws" and will just continue to ignore any and all laws that the anti-gunners pass.

Good for you. A hunter safety class is what I like to suggest for children also. They are usually free or a very minimal cost.

I am glad to hear that you joined the NRA! It is very important to add voices to the largest pro-gun organization in the US.
As the previous poster said, don't worry about the money requests, only give what you feel comfortable giving.
Check their News website from time to time to keep up to date on all the things that they are doing for gun owners.
I have said many times, if the 80 million gun owners joined the NRA the politicians would not be able to ignore our requests! Heck if they even had 25 million members they would be a voice that would be hard to ignore.0 -

I do not know if overwhelmed is correct. I believe that most feel the money used to solicit could be better used elsewhere. Don0 -

I would bet money that a grand total of only 3,800 of that 38,000 belong to ANY pro-gun rights organization whether it be a national or local organization.
No one can fully deny that good things are done by pro-gun rights organizations. The only thing that is in question is which one(s) are doing that good. In my case it is damn cheap to join and support at least 3 pro-gun rights organizations so that way I know I am supporting at least one that is doing some good. Buy even at that it only costs about $20-35 per year to join and support at least one pro-gun rights organizations and for a good cause that is nothing but pocket change. And yeah, maybe that pocket change could be used for a better cause, but pocket change is so cheap that I am not going to worry about trying to find that "better cause".
In addition, I also do the indivdual actions that many of the people who eschew joining an organization, use as an excuse as to why they don't need to or believe in actually joining an organization.
But STILL you will, not only find free riders among our fellow gun owners, but you will find free riders who are not only willing to argue long and hard as to why THEY are too good, too smart, too busy, too effective with their "go it alone" program to join up, but they are proud of not joining up. In addition they have contempt and anger for people like me who are just trying to not let possible help for gun rights wither and die on the vine for lack of member support and lack of funds.
