Not a bad idea though. A referendum/majority vote on moving forward on gun-control legislation/compromises would at least allow the bright light of day to shine on their actions and if the membership supported it, so be it.
The real supporters of Amendment II could then see the NRA clearly for what it is and thus separate from the organization. The gun-owning, but gun-control supporting members could then be alone and banded together for all to see.

TrFox, this is the first thing you have said about the nra i agree with. the officers of the nra should realize that members can think for themselves.had they had a poll on their website and the majority of members voted yes on supporting hr 2640 very few members would be as mad, and feel they were screwed by them0 -

Prefer we have one of our unemployed members do it....as a FULL TIME job.

Unless it turns out the NRA and and the NSSF are correct on this. And while I have read different events that have got me a little worried that they ARE correct on this, I have yet to read about a single citizen that was unfairly denied/deprived of his gun rights because of anything in this bill that everyone here hates.
Also, when Senator Ted Kennedy tries to stop a gun bill from being passed, as was done with this controversily bill, my first impluse is to want to act in opposition to Kennedy and support this bill.
All I trying to say about this NICS improvement bill is that sometimes in a compliated situation, if you only look a few feet down the road, you might see a much worse situation than if you were able to look much farther down the road. It could very well be that this NICS improvement bill is going to be a major disaster for us gun owners. But we are now stuck with it (assuming Bush doesn't veto it) and we might want to watch it closely to see if it turns out to be as bad as has been predicted by so many.
Remember that there are several other either pro-gun organizations or organizations that have a milder support for gun rights that have not condemned the NICS improvement bill. To my knowledge such groups as the SAF, CCRKBA, CATO institute and I believe JPFO and even various private gun clubs around the country as well as various state pro-gun rights groups. Surely if the NICS improvement bill was so bad, they, and other groups, would have spoken up.
My MO gun club has about 800 members and everyone is required to be an NRA member. Surely all 800 of those members are not so stupid as to miss it if the NICS improvement was so bad. Yet I have not heard anything negative from the club.0 -

Some have made some valid points (which i don't particularly agree with) but by and large most of these guys just want to rant about the NRA, totally ignoring all the other pro-gun entities out there that support this bill. Thnak you for the compliment but the job I do takes a heavy toll on me. I try to be a good guy and like and be liked by most everybody whereever I go. But because of my religious beliefs (no body here knows what I believe, they just no it doesn't match what they believe) and my "don't just flush the NRA" stance, I have a lot of enemies here.
