Second Ammendment Foundation
I'm disatisfied with the NRA. This year I let my membership expire. I will not be renewing. Instead, I'm going to join an alternative organiztion. I've looked at GOA, but I'm not really impressed with their body of work. I'm much more encouraged by the track record of the Second Ammendment Foundation, as they've managed to score a few victories in the legal system.
I'm thinking about joining. Before I do, is there anything I need to be aware of about this group?

This isn't the group that says it's for gun rights that is really just trying to get members away from the NRA is it?Why your dissatisfied with the NRA is your business, but they are putting up one he ll of a fight right now against many fed and state bills for gun control. Some of the bills here in CT were shot down because of the NRA's fight. 0 -

Again I think the Second Amendment Foundation is the lobbying arm of the GOA. Similar to the NRA-ILA is the lobbying arm of the NRA.0 -

What's wrong (if anything is indeed "wrong") with the GOA? Everything I've read about them seems to portray them pretty favorably. 0 -
Nothing is "wrong" with the GOA....they are a pro-gun lobby
SAF seems to be more geared towards litigation.....which I believe will be more productive in the long run0 -
Well, I suppose the NRA probably doesn't do everything perfect, but it seems strange that there's an awful lot of new organizations that lead us to believe they can do a better job. Conspiracy? ONE way to enhance gun laws and make new ones is to dilute the membership of the huge NRA into a bunch of little ones that have no political clout.
I don't like some of the things the NRA does but it's probably done on the recommendation of their lawyers. Our political clout to the state and federal politicians remain strong because of our numbers in one unified organization. Join another if you wish, but please keep your membership support for the BIG NRA....Have a nice day, everybody.0 -

Would it not make more sense then to try to get the NRA to pursue that course of action? Or has their leadership gotten too comfortable?

I belong to NRA, GOA, SAF, VCDL, and JPFO. I think all gun owners should belong to as many as possible. 0 -
SAF has been around for years and in my opinion is a good organization. They are much smaller and less well funded than the NRA and therefore of coursse cannot be as active as the NRA but when they do something they seem to do a good job and I have never had any reason to fault what they did. Although I wish they would do more maybe they will when they get more members.
Note to those people here who, when someone mentions the NRA, those people start a rant about how the NRA is worthless and they will never join and so forth. Fine, hate the NRA. But instead of keeping your dues money in your pocket like some cheap, tightwad and in effect be a free rider in regards to a national fight for your gun rights, instead of that, join and support the SAF, GOA, etc.0 -

I was just doing a little research on Google and noted the following:
NRA - 4.3 million members
GOA - 300,000 members
Second Amendment Foundation - 600,000 members.
Just for your information.
I agree that it is important to join your favorite gun owners group even if its only a state level organization.0 -
