An early 70's Remington 552 Speedmaster .22 Auto...

I have been looking for one in great condition for about three or four years now.

Have been watching this auction for well over a week waiting to see what happened. When it did not go above $200.00 I had to grab it..

This is the best looking one I have saw yet that has not been refinished or imported.

I had one as a kid and got rid of it due to feeding problems with .2 LR ammo. The one I had bent a lot of lead bullets in such a way that it would not feed. I am old enough now days to look over such small problems and even the small stress crack in forearm at the screw bushing. For mine did the same thing..

Be something that the kids can enjoy for years to come..

Now the search begins for it's brother a 572 Fieldmaster pump.[8D]

    That is a funny one.

    I never did like those Nylon 66's. Even as a kid I thought that they were junk.. I guess the plastic made me feel that way.

    i have one of the Remington jamomatics (552's) can you tell me if there is a trick to keep it from jamming? any sugestion will be welcomed. i've tried lr's shorts and longs all jam. i forgot to say that's a good looking rifle.

    I used one for years without a problem....
    BTW Remington reissued them a while back...a bit pricey though!!!

    mine is a first year production 1957 it functioned great for about 300 rounds and then started jamming. sometimes it will shoot 2 or 3 times and then start jamming each shot. i've tried remington,winchester,federal,pmc,cci and they all jam. it's been to several gunsmiths and none have been able to fix the problem. i haven't contacted remington but i think i will. maybe they can tell me a fix.
    LesWVa: i sure hope you don't have the problem mine has given me.

    Does the new 552's have a smoothbore like the new 572 pumps?

    My Grandfather gave me the one I had back in the mid 70's. He got me an 552 and my brother a 572.

    I had it for about a year and got stupid due to it jamming and traded it off.

    Will not be surprised at all if this one also jams. But these days I have enough sense to have it looked at, attempt to have it fixed or live with it.

    I have been told two things that may fix the jamming problem. But I will not disclose them at this time. Due to my not seeing it nor having it done to one of my own rifles. I do not want anyone trying something that may leave them with a trashed part due to my suggesting an off of the wall fix that someone told me about.

    LesWVa, i respect that, but if you have the problem and any of the fixes work please consider lettting me know it won't hurt my feelings to have to replace a broken or messed up part. mine belonged to an uncle who left it to me when he died. that's the only reason i still own it.
