We had a stray come in here about a week ago, that looks to be a young female pit. She is the most loving/submisive dog you'd ever want to see. She has a nice cllar and a flea collar on, but looks like she been without a home for awhile.
Even as hungry as she is bound to be, any of us, including the kids can mess around her feed. Killer dogs my arse.[:)]0 -
I am so glad that you feel comfortable letting your children play with this stray, but you should be more careful. My family takes in strays and we have been lucky that up till now we have not had any vicious ones. Let me tell you about something that happened the night before Halloween. Our dogs went crazy....scary sound....daughter went to the door to see what could be setting them off. She opened the door and screamed...call 991...get a gun...its killing her...so of course we ran outside. I grabbed a phone and hubby had his 38. As we got outside we could see the next door neighbor (weighs 110 soaking wet) was on the ground...being attacked by a Pitt bull. It was shaking her and trying to drag her backwards off the driveway into the darkness. It backed off and lunged for her arm, it showed no teeth, didnt growl....looked like a dog that was leaning forward timidly to be petted...but it had something else in mind...it grabbed her again by the elbow......Hubby took aim and fired....dog ran off.....checked the neighbor...she was in shock...it had ripped her elbow almost completely off ....looked like a shark attack....in just about a minute and a half, it had bit her leg, almost crushed her knee....broke her arm in 2 places, demolished her elbow....what brought on this attack....she had walked out her door, took about 4 steps down her driveway to take her dashound out for a walk to go potty.
I have some beautiful dogs, and one cute mutt....I have been lucky ....all are rescues.....but if it had been Halloween and some little kid had been out there....they would not have lived..of this I am sure...another 4 or 5 minutes and I dont believe this lady would have made it.....the arm was almost off...she would have either bled to death or since the dog had her down...I think it would have finished her off......this is definitely a great reason to have your gun handy ...even at home.......and I worry about my 5 year old grand daugher more each day....she could have been here and outside in my yard. I have had friends who had pitt bulls, dobermans I had a beautiful german shepherd .....it just depends on the dog.....
By the way....the dog lived on the other side of her.......he had 5...plus puppies...City knew about it...had complaints...dogs got out off and on for 2 years...and so it had never happened before....but it did this time.........you can never be sure........0 -
Just to let you know....Hubby hit the dog, couldnt take a head shot because he was worried about hitting neighbor....so he got it in the chest...dog was found under house next door...dying.....
April was in the hospital 6 days and has just come home....dogs had not had rabies shots...so she has had to endure surgery to put in pins and screws in her elbow and will need more surgery soon....she had to get rabies shots......all because some idiot was irresponsible ........makes me look at strays a little different now......0 -

But the sad thing about strays is you really dont know how they were treated before they come to be in your presence....When I read that they guy thought it was so sweet and good even around his kids...it sent shivers down my spine.
We adopted a Beagle that at first was pretty sweet...we got her home and that is when the behavior came out....she never bit anyone...but you could tell she was mistreated....she wouldnt take food from you...you couldnt be in the room when she ate.....guess someone used food to lure her and then beat her.....we had her for 2 years.....sadly...she died of siezures.....Vet said it was probably due to the beatings she had endured............you just never know....
Just be careful when you are around a new dog and never leave your children unattended with one.....0 -
I have been around all forms of and trained dogs all my life and can read them pretty well. If this one is ever thought to be a danger, i'll be the first to put it down.. 0 -
There are a lot of smart people buried in the cemetery that were sure they could spot trouble early enough so as to avoid it. If predicting that a person or animal is going to harm you is so easy, there would be no need to carry weapons or to have insurance policies because everyone could just avoid dangerous places and situations.
It only takes one time thinking you can predict what will happen in the next few minutes to leave you dead or severly hurt. Or your family.0
