Range report... Rem. 552 Auto that's new to me.
Got to pick up the new to me Remington 552 Speedmaster .22.
The little rifle is manufacture dated June 1972. It is in far better shape than I ever expected for a 35 year old .22. Small place on the stock from looks like hanging on a gun rack, Small scratch on the forearm from what also appears to be from a gun rack. Small scratch on the rear sight. That is all I could find on the rifle.
Tore it completely apart and gave it a cleaning (I have almost forgotten how dirty .22 autos can get).
Bought 200 rounds of CCI Mini-Mag 40 grain ammo for the test firing session.
Loaded up the old Jeep with the girls "Middle" and "Little", my 6 and 10 year olds and headed for the woods.
I was cold, partly rain and a lot of snow which made the old trails slick. Just right for a jeep ride with the kids. Let the kids drive around some and they had a ball slinging mud.
Got to where we could safely pop off a few rounds. The rifle preformed flawlessly for about the first 25 or so rounds then jammed. OK I thought here we go. But after clearing the round it finished the rest of the brick and the other 100 rounds without a problem. 200 rounds with only one jam. I can easily live with a 552 that preforms that good.
The kids had a blast with the rifle. Funny watching "Little" shoot it with the stock stuck under her arm. But she hit what she was aiming at most of the time, a piece of 8 x 10 cardboard set at about 15 to 20 yards out. "Middle" did very good with it out to about 50 yards. Both gals had a blast with the little gun and both now claim it as their own after working out a deal between themselves. [^] It belongs to "Little" from Tuesday until Thursday and Saturday. Then it belongs to "Middle" Friday, Sunday and Monday.. That was the deal that they came up with and agreed upon themselves..[:D].
My finding were that the rifle is a very accurate little shooter and it brought back a lot of childhood memory's watching the kids shoot it.
I first thought of scoping it. But have decided against the idea for I like it just the way it is.
Now if I can just work out a deal with the girls to let me own it at least one day a week.
Funny how something so simple can be so much fun to enjoy with your kids.

ask some ??? here and was told there were 2 kinds
jammers and non jammeres,
mine turned out to be a non jammer (so far) and that was with cheep fed bulk pack [:p]

i'm sure glad you got a good one. the one i have is a jamomatic. any one know how to fix the jamming? i would be very grateful for any help. mine is a first year production 1957. was a gift when i was a kid so i won't sell or get rid of it. i've had it to 4 gunsmiths and none have been able to fix it. 1 or 2 was remington repair centers. 0
