Temper got the best of me today

Finally blew a gasket today about the speeders on my road. There's a lot of new developments going up on my once rural county road and the construction traffic is real, real bad with most them speeding. There's been a dumptruck all week going way over the posted 30 mph speed limit. Speeds past the house at least 10 times a day. Well I was out front and here he comes. I walk down to the road and motion for him to slow down. He doesn't, so my world famous temper erupts and I flip him off. He slams on his brakes and backs up while I write his information down that's on his door AND no license plate. He gets out and is upset about me flipping him off. We go at it (nothing physical) and I think I got my point across. He admitted to speeding and said it won't happen again. I apologized for flipping him off and we shook hands. All is well. We (me and the neighbors) have called and visited city hall and the police department expressing concern about the speeding in the past but nothing is ever done. Don't know what else to do.

    Sounds like you were lucky enough to encounter a gentleman who was a good enough person to recognize you were right, he was speeding, and acted civilized about it.

    Express to the police department all of the potential revenue they could get by issuing tickets and allow the police to take radar from your driveway. That might get people to slow down.

    Ask your local PD to put up one of those mobile radar signs that register your speed. They did that for us in our neighborhood for the same reason.....construction traffic.
    Also, it seems to be a good way for them to generate some ticketing $$$ for the local municipality........presented as such to the proper authority might earn a unit parked and radar-ing passers by....just warn your "good" neighbors when it's going down, so they don't get tagged!
    I called a guy out on it one day as I was walking around with my (then) 2 yr old in the stroller. Guy had to have been doing 55 in a posted 35. He also apologized ,and that was that. I have no problem busting your chops about speeding, especially in a neighborhood with lots of kids.

    A friend of mine had a problem with a Domino's Pizza delivery driver that made frequent deliveries to the end of his block. It was a dead-end street (realtors call it a cul-de-sac) and because traffic was light-to-non-existent, children often played in the street. Someone down at the dead end was always ordering pizza, and the driver always tore down the street as though his tip depended on him getting there 30 seconds ahead of schedule.

    He talked to the driver, and to the manager, without results. One day, pizza guy comes ripping down the street, and my friend happened to be working on his truck in the street. Without thinking, he hurled the wrench he had in his hand at the delivery car. It went through the back window. CRASH!!!!

    The driver reported the incident to the police, but did not follow up with a complaint, so no charge was filed. My friend never did get his wrench back, but the driver passed by slowly after that, so he thought it was a good trade.

    Revenue usually goes into general fund and not to the police department. Diesigned that way to take away incentative of police to write tickets so as to generate money for equipment, raises, etc.

    Police could write a billion dollars of tickets yet not see any of that money help their dept.
